SOURCE: Black line down middle of scan

Well I hate to give out bad news but if that line is in the exact same location on every scan it means that the element (the scanning light) has failed. Sorry that I could not earn a FixYa for you. If you need to replace the scanner I have had excellent luck with Epson scanners. Here is a link to a few on Amazon.com for refrence.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=search-alias%3Daps
&field-keywords=epson+scanner&x=0&y=0
Just copy the link and paste it into your web browser. there are also some very good all in one options. I have had this one for a year and it works well:

/dp/B000UY6M2G/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=office-products

Hope that was at least helpful.
Take Care,

Black line 6130

Hi,

Are the scan settings correctly specified for the scanning application software used? Check if interface cable are correctly connected. When the error occurs on ADF front, clean the glass inside of Base Unit. When the error occurs on ADF back, clean the glass of the Upper Unit.Check if any dirt get on the white reference sheet?

Also, check the mirror of the OPT Unit dirty, clean the mirrors.
Check the connector and check any cables are damaged,if so, then replace the damaged cables.

If the above doesn't help, then the issue may be due Optical unit or Control PCA problem. hence, you may have to seek the help of Fujitsu scanner technicians for rectification.

Hope the above information is helpful.

Thanks & regards,

I always have a black line down the middle of the page when i scan. help

If there's a black line when scanning but not when printing, you need to clean the scan bed. Either the glass has something on it or check the paper path if you're using the ADF. A single ink spot either place will print a line down the whole length of your scan.

How do i get rid of a black line that ahows up down the r side of scanned documents, there is no line on the originals

If you are using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) to scan, you may need to clean the scanner bar glass.
First test: See if the line appears when you scan on the flatbed. If so, it is probably a hardware failure.
If it appears only when using the ADF, you need to clean the ADF.
HP has a general diagnostic and cleaning procedure here:

Black line when using feeder. I have cleaned with alcohol the glass, rubbers, everything, as suggested. Just tried scanner, same line appears.

Determine where the line is...right side, middle, left side. Lift the ADF up. If you have to lay the paper down on the glass and match the line to the glass. There has to be a piece of dirt in that area. Sometimes it helps to gently run your finger of the glass(where the line is). Feel for any abnormality. Try a magnifying glass. There is dirt there. That's the only thing that will cause a black line when using the ADF. Check the underneath of the ADF cover for dirt.

HP Officejet 6480 leaves a black line down left side of sheet only when usine document feeder. Already cleaned feeder rollers and feeder glass, as well as glass bed.

I found the following information on the HP web site, under their support forum.

Clean the automatic document feeder (ADF)
If the product is not already off, press the Power button to turn off the product, and disconnect the power cord from the product.
Remove all originals from the document feeder tray.
Open the ADF cover.
Lightly dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from the cloth.
Use the damp cloth to wipe any residue off the rollers and separator pad.

NOTE: If the residue does not come off using distilled water, try using isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.

Close the ADF cover.
Step 2: Clean the glass strip in the ADF
Open the ADF cover, and lift the ADF mechanism.
Lightly dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with a mild glass cleaner.

Gently clean the glass strip inside the ADF, and then thoroughly dry it to prevent spotting.
Lower the ADF mechanism, and close the ADF cover
Close the scanner lid, reconnect the power cord to the product, and then press the Power button to turn on the product

Black vertical line along left margin when using the adf to scan.

Hi,

Check both the Fuser Unit and the Cartridge for lines . In any of the rollers are found with a line that means it needs to be replaced.

LINE THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE PAGE

After making sure all is clean, you need to power off and on again so that the scanner calibrates to a clean glass. If there was something blocking the last time it was powered on it will make streaks until you power cycle the machine.

Recieving end gets a page with a black line down the lenght of pa

There is a narrow glass on the left of the scanner glass. look at it ,you will probably see a spec of dust, dirt or debris there. Clean it. If it is on the inside of the glass, you will need to remove it and clean it.Also, lift up the ADF cover and clean the rollers with a cloth and some alcohol.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

ADF not working.

if the black line shows only when you use the ADF, lift the whole document feeder, and look on the very left of the glass (the area onto which the paper is travels from the ADF). Check that the glass is clean in that area.

On the ADF:
Open the small ADF cover on the top right. There you will see rollers and a paper sensor. First make sure the isn't any paper stuck in the rollers. Clean the rollers with a damp cotton pad or cloth a small amount of dish washing detergent. Make sure it is damp. Then check to make sure that the paper sensor lever is working by toggling it. The paper sensor is spring loaded, check that the spring is in place.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe
