That is not a DVD drive, it is a CD-ROM drive. It can not play DVDs.

The pc won't burn cd's seems like it doesn't recognize cds or dvds

Does the cd/dvd drive read cds? This is a good test to ensure that the drive is functional.

Sometimes, generic cd/dvd burners do not recognize certain types of blank discs. Try another type of
brand blank discs, it should work.

I have bought a new piece of editing software ive checked that it runs with vista but every time i insert the Cd in to the drive it does not seem to recognize that thers a cd in the drive

try to run the cd on another system. if the computer recognizes that there's a cd in the drive, that may mean that your DVD Drive may be going bad. Usually DVD Drives dont fail all at once. it happens gradually. 1st it stops playing some dvds, then it stops playing dvds altogether

DVD plays in DVD player is not seen at all by Windows XP

Hi,it's obvious from your problem that the particular disc that cannot be viewed on your computer is of a formatt not supported by the windows XP.some DVDs are of low quality which can be viewed practically on any DVD player but as a result of their low quality and the sensitivity of the Windows they are not recognized by your computer. In as much as other DVDS play on your computer,it means there's no problem with your computer, but an unsupported disc formatt is been trying to be viewed and there's nothing you can do to view a DVD formatt not supported by your computer.please don't be bothered.
Thanks and take care

I purchased a CD-Rom advertised on Amazon as compatible with Asuseeepc and I wanted it for use with the DVD support disc. It works fine with cds but does not recognize dvds when inserted. I have been

A CD-Rom will only recognize CD's. It must be a DVD-ROM to recognize DVD's. DVD-ROM will recognize CD's ,but not the other way around. No drivers needed for thes, they are plug and play.

Dvd rom problems with my macbook

Does the computer immediately return the discs after they're inserted or do you have to manually eject them? If it's trying to read the discs then there could be a problem with the type of disc. However if it just ejects the disc immediately, there could be a recognition problem. So, if your computer doesn't recognize that a disc is in the drive, you can check several things. 1. Check to see that the computer actually reads DVDs. To do this, open the System Profiler in the Utilities folder. Click on ATA/Devices and Volumes/Disc Burning. Those are three different options but each will tell you if the drive actually does run DVDs. If it shows DVDRW or DVD, but if it only shows CD or CD-RW, then it won't play a DVD. 2. If it shows that it accepts DVDs through the System Profiler, then you'll need to check to see if the actual drive is attached. You can open your computer through the battery with a screw driver. Once open, you'll need to check the connecting cable to the drive. If it's attached properly/securely, you may need to take it to a technician. The drive me be malfunctioning and need professional repair.

Cant play DVD ROMs

you can try uninstalling the drive, by going to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down the list for cd/dvd drives, click on '+' sign and right click on your drive make and select uninstal. Restart pc and your drive will be reinstalled automatically again. If you have a cd cleaner disc run that also. Try to run the game again, although it may still not work as the drives laser seems to be out of line or simply run it's life, and a new drive is the only answer i'm afraid.
