I have the same problem (Application is still running close it and start the camera) from last Week onwards, i went to the sony ericson service station, they told some Part(board) to be replaced and It will take 15days hardly,I dint accepted his comments, Then i worked full fledged on this and i got the solutions,
Solution:1(model:W580i)
*Remove the memory stick and push the air (from mouth)into the Inner camera.After that it will work Fine.
Reason: If Dust in your camera lens, the error will appear, so it is a matter of sensor.

* Observe the problem little closer, and fix it, b'coz you know your mobile very well than the 3rd Person.

When u start the phone go to menu then to organiser then select applications delete all unwated applications once u have done tht take battery out for 10 seconds the reboot the phone
Ok ive tryed everything, rebooting my phone, master restting it, blowing into the m2 slot to clear the dust out, and nothing is working.

Hey..I have the same problem with my w660i..I noticed the application face warp is also faulty..even that appication doesn work n says " No enough free memory"...IS THIS APPLICATION CAUSING THIS PROBLEM?? IS THIS APPLICATION RUNING IN THE BACKGROUND?? no signs though..has that got to do anything with this problem??

Hi Guys, I had the similar problem with my K790i thats says "Another application is running. Close it, and then start the camera." when I open the Lens lid. However, I managed to resolved the problem by going to File Manager>Other folder and deleting the file that was once transfer from my friend Phone. Try it out and hope it helps.
yea i have this phone it usually only does that if you are talking but some spplications and the camera cant run at the same time like when your listening to music.. it stops when picture is taken so ya...

Hello. Please close all the application that are using the cam. Restart the computer, then launch the application. This will solve the problem if not uninstall and reinstall the camera drivers, for the drivers either refer to the CD which came along to you or go to the camera manufacturer website ( ex:- HP.com etc) and download and instal.

shut down the phone and do a soft reset by pulling the battery from phone wait 30 sec place battery back in phone and reboot this will set the phone back to the factory settings. if it still doesn't work you may have a software problem check to see what auto functions your phone has and make sure you have shut any non essential functions off this should solve your problem. if not your phone will need to be reset by your provider or phone manufacturer.

Remove the battery, memory card. replace the battery after 15 minutes.. Now check your media files and clear off unwanted files. clear any MMS received.
If the camera now reponds well insert memory card after getting it scanned in your PC for errors.
If not the camera software must be reloaded.

Unfortunately the problem persits. I see from some digging that this isn't uncommon on this phone and I'll likely have to take it back.

I have this same problem with the Sony Ericsson TM506 ... This piece of **** phone. I should of returned it when it first happened in the first week after I purchased it. Seems to be an ongoing Sony issue.
