Windows crashed, used XP disk to da a "Repair windows installation", windows now works and boots up , but cant access my old account whch was not password protected... In other words when trying to access "Documents and settings\(Account name)\my documents" it gives me "Access Denied" message... when trying to gain access through M.S Dos command prompt it also says "Cant't access specified folder make sure file is not write or copy protected"... I Really need to access that folder seeing that there is alot of photos of my famiy and files that I was clever enough to not have made a backup of.. Please help if possible
The account that you are accessing; is it an Admin account, and now from the very account you are trying to access that account is a limited one, Is that so?
If that is the scenario, then there are ways through which you can get an admin access, but IF those files aren't there or are corrupted, then that is something else.
I'm waiting for your response...
Also get the properties of that account folder and tell me that folder size, to have an idea that is there something in it.

Actually you are trying to access a folder that was created by another account. Since you have not repaired your Windows Installation, you cannot login to that account. But no need to worry, Yes, you can easily access all those files.
You need to take ownership of that folder you want to access. The access is denied message is actually showing up because of NTFS security restrictions.
Here is all you need to know to get ownership:
Log on as an administrator
If you have Windows Xp Home Edition, Start Windows XP Home Edition in safe mode
Disable Simple File Sharing in Windows XP Professional
To disable simple file sharing yourself, follow these steps:Click Start, and then click My Computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
In the Advanced Settings section, click to clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box.
Click OK.
To take ownership of a folder
To take ownership of a folder, follow these steps:Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
In the Name list, click your user name, or click Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to take ownership of the contents of the folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objectscheck box.
Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control? All permissions will be replaced if you click Yes.
Note folder name is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of.Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.
I am sure this will solve your problem. If it does please do rate my solution. If you are still having any problem, comment here.

Yes the account I'm trying to access is an admin account without a password and the account I'm trying to access it form is also an admin account in another name... If I go to the account using win explorer and right click select properties it tells me the folder is 0bytes or empty, atttributes : Read only, but if I use the Repair console from the XP installation disk it throws me to an operating system similar to M.S.Dos... If I then go into the directory I can see that the files and folders are there and copy the files one by one which is extremely time consuming and tiring having to tipe in the different commands...
Any Suggestions?
