How do I get my Nuvi 255 to go back to English from Spanish. I hit Venuzeula for a country instead of USA?

• Press TOOLS (The spanner icon on the bottom right corner of the page with WHERE TO and VIEW MAP) I know this might take a little trial and error since it's in Spanish but should be possible.
• Press SETTINGS (the spanner icon).
• Press LANGUAGE (The lips icon)

This brings you to a screen with 3 items; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
To change the voice prompts to English press VOICE and select an English voice.
To change the text to English press TEXT and select English or American English if you're in the USA
If you press the KEYBOARD icon also select English

This should solve your problem

• Press TOOLS (The spanner symbol in the right bottom corner of the screen that shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
• Press SETTINGS (The spanner symbol) or LOCALE (the blue symbol) on models that don't have a SETTINGS symbol.
• Press LANGUAGE (The lips symbol)

This takes you to a screen with 3 items; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD
Press each in turn. The VOICE will give you the option to select a voice by name and country. Select one that's from an English speaking country to get the voice prompts in English.

Press TEXT LANGUAGE and select English or American English if you're in the USA.

Press KEYBOARD and Select English. This should solve your problem.

If your satnav is not in English go to paragraph 2 first.

1. On the screen that says WHERE TO and VIEW MAP

• Press WHERE TO
• Press ADDRESS
• At the top of the screen you'll see the country VENEZUELA
  
• At the bottom you'll see an icon CHANGE COUNTRY
• Press CHANGE COUNTRY and select United States

2. If your satnav is not in English as a result of picking Venezuela

1. Press TOOLS (the spanner symbol in the bottom right corner of the page showing WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
2. Press SETTINGS (The spanner icon) or LOCALE (the blue icon) if your satnav doesn't have a settings icon
3. Press LANGUAGE (the lips icon)

There are 3 items on this screen; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD

Press VOICE and select a voice from an English speaking country
Press TEXT LANGUAGE and select American English
All should now be back to normal.

Hello, you should be able to achieve this by resetting the GPS since its default is English.

Performing a Standard Reset

1. Slide the power switch all the way to the left (with the Nuvi's screen facing you).
2. Hold the switch in the position for at least eight seconds.
3. Push the switch to the right to power the Nuvi back on.

Performing a Factory Reset

1. Turn your Nuvi off by sliding the power switch to the left.
2. Press your finger against the bottom right corner of the touchscreen. Hold your finger in this position.
3. Slide the power switch to the right to turn the Nuvi back on. Continue to hold you finger against the screen until you see the factory reset prompt. Tap "Yes" to perform the factory reset.

Although the manual says it's for the nuvi 205, it should be the same for your nuvi 255.

The instructions to change the language are on page 35 of the manual.

You may be able to use the Yahoo online translator to translate the Portuguese words to English - to change the language.

This may be a result of a previous software version on a device or possibly some one changing the settings. If a device does power on with a foreign language that you can not understand it can be corrected by going through the settings to change the text language.
To change the text language:

1. Touch Wrench icon on the screen with the Magnifying Glass and Map icon
2. Touch the Gears icon
3. Touch the down arrow
4. Touch the second option from the top1
5. Touch the middle blue box on right
6. Touch the up arrow until American English appears2
7. Touch American English
8. Touch OK
9. Touch Back

The device should be in selected text language.
Note 1 - In some cases, if there are Custom POIs loaded to the device then it may be the first option at the top.
Note 2 - If American English is not the language needed, please selected the desired language
