I own a yamaha ypt - 400 keyboard. i have sucessfully connected it to my pc, and transferred the 06PK61.bup file which contains all the user recordings on they keyboard.
i was wondering i if there was any way to get this file into a readable audio format, such as midi so i can hear my recorded songs on my pc. Alternatively, is there a way to transfer the user recordings from the keyboard to the computer, in a different format.
Thanks in advance,
A Yamaha Customer.

Press the FUNCTION button till "Local Control" appears and then select it "On".
It appears this may take quite a bunch of presses to get down to the Local Control option.
Refer to your manual around pages 56 and 57 to see the list you step through. Local Control is about 2/3 the way down page 57.
Refer to 59 for the simple instruction toe set Local Control on or off.

The BUP is an archiving format proprietary to the Yamaha apparently containg styles as well as note data and conversion is really not easy.
If you can get the instrument itself to spill out MIDI and use a MIDI interface and software to capture it on the PC is the best plan.
Once it is in SMF format you can play it on the PC.

Assuming you have a MIDI interface on your computer, you need to connect the MIDI cables between the keyboard and the PC. You cross connect, that is, in to out and vice versa. You will ALSO need the driver software for the interface in the PC AND most importantly, some software in the PC to handle the MIDI for instance to record.

The BUP files are yamaha's proprietary back up file format.
Having the appropriate drivers installed, once you make the usb connection from computer to keyboard (yamaha), you should now be able to navigate the Yamaha's files as if it were a drive on your computer. I recommend placing the file in a directory with similar files.
Make a backup beforehand to avoid and problems.
