My dvd writer was working perfectly but when i format my wondow now it is playing only cds & when i insert a dvd it is not giving any response & my driver is also showing as cd-rom

On the back of a CD-writer or a DVD-writer is a small grid (2 rows) of gold pins.

Each vertical set of pins is labelled: MA(ster), SL(ave), and C(able)S(elect).
Be sure that one drive has a small jumper between the MA pins,
and the other drive has a small jumper between the SL pins.

Was there any software on CD-ROM that came with the DVD-writer,
e.g., software to play DVDs, and software to write CDs and DVDs?
To "play" a DVD, you'll need that software.
To "play" a music CD, Windows Media Player will suffice.

This may be caused by bad media, or incompatible formats. There are a variety of media formats for CDs and DVDs. Your reader may not read them all. What model are you running, and what type of media (DVD-R, DVD+R, etc) are you using?

the drive is not recognizing any dvd. this happens when you insert dvd into cd drive. if this happens with dvd drive its factory malfunction probably so if you can-replace it

Yes there is video format for our TV and dvd players. NTSC & PAL...

NTSC SYSTEM SELECTED IN TV & DVD PLAYER PLAY PERFECT NTSC CDS & DVDS, BUT IF PAL CD OR DVD IS INSERTED SUCH PROBLEM COMES.
EVEN IF, THE DVD PLAYER SETTING IS KEPT AS PAL, AND WE INSERTING THE CORRECT CD OR DVD AND ALSO IT SHOW BLACK & WHITE PICTURE, ETC.... so please check your video system in TV, DVD PLAYER and check the CD or DVD you are inserting is of same video format you have set in DVD player.

Everytime I want to play an audio cd, it says format unsupported. This is happening very often. And I have also cleaned the cds,but still there is no difference. What is the solution?

Depending on the age of the writer, this is typical. Older writers do not always work well with the newer formats. You may even find that it works with only certain brands. The other thing to check is the formats compatible with your writer.

IF you are burn youor CD make sure is read and writeable drive if not
get a dvd burner or cd burner a dvd is for dvd CD rewriteable
a cd is just regular CD blank CD for both make sure format when your computer
has detect 14x or 16x 700GB storage...

Maybe try to clean the eye?
