Have a Sony dav s-300. It stopped playing. Put a dvd in and won't start, reads ''no disc''. Put a cd in for music - same thing. Can't eject disc until you turn power off and turn back on. It did work once since this started but picture was bad, interference and all over the place.

Try cleaning disc. Despite what we are told, a speck will cause problem. Then if you have use cleaner on drive, just to make sure electronics are clean
Hi, Please put few drops of WD-40 on spindle motor shaft that sound not spin smoothly. Spindle motor is located in middle of dvd mechanism that holds and spins disc. If that does not solve your problem, replace optical block. Let me know if you need optical block part number. Thanks.
Try a "Laser Lens Cleaner" preferably one that uses fluid, run that thru the machine a couple times. You can find them at just about any retail store that sells CD's/DVD's or electronics. Next, if you have any liquid car polish, take a couple drops and spread on the surface of the disc. Use a microfiber towel to clean off. This helps clean off smudges and protects the disc from scratches. And it works great on damaged discs too! If your discs still do not play, then the unit needs to be repaired or replaced. Press standby button to turn on the set,
select dvd function then press and hold STOP and EJECT button for five seconds or more to UNLOCK cd slot. You will see UNLOCK in display.
2 options comes in my mind... Put software upgrading CD manually in player and let it finish software upgrade process. If this trick doesn't work, you need to replace digital process board or need to replace on board ROM, if you can. let me know if you need further info.
I have this same problem. Plays music CDs fine but DVDs do not work. It recognises the DVD tries 3 times to play it displaying "Reading" and then moves on to the next available disk. Any suggestions?
