Question about Apple iPhone Smartphone
I dropped my iphone whilst ina changing room and when i picked it up it sed no sim but worked fine the following day although it was runnin out of battery. The battery ran out so i plugged it in the plug socket charger and soon realised it wasn't doing anything so i plugged it in the laptop usb and still nothing happened put it in the docking station in the computer still nothing and the same when i plugged it in to an upstairs socket now if i press the on button it comes up with a battery with a bit of red tht flashes with a lighting bolt and a plug image if i hold it for long enough when the apple comes up it goes onto the password screen but if i press a number it goes bck to the battery again how can i fix this also this is an unlocked phone
Problem: "i have an unlocked iphone. Its worked fine for several months now,
until I dropped it today in the acrylic case. when i picked it up it
had the error message saying "the acessory you are trying to use, does
not work with Iphone, try turning on the airplane mode to stop the
noise" (only using the standard email app tho). It doesn't charge"
Solution: using bits and pieces of info found on this page I did the following:
1. tried my friend's charger (didn't work)
2. tried to charge using both wall and computer (didn't work)
3. plug into computer and hold down the home button until red battery indicator came on (showed a lightning bolt but still seemed frozen and stayed red so not really charging)
4. while still plugged in: hold down both power button and home button simultaneously (got gray lines on screen, scared me at first!)
5. waited a minute, then held down power button as if I was turning on the iPhone like normal (got the apple logo and the phone loaded up fine, received text messages and the battery charging indicator is actually turning green and seems to be charging)

I left my phone charging for a few hours and it appeared not to be charging as the battery icon was staying at 10% of charge. I was confused because it had the charging icon in the upper right hand corner. If your phone is doing something similar i simply powered the phone down and turned it back on. The charge went from 10% to 100% on the display. This is what worked for me hope this helps.

I have been researching this a lot because my phone developed a similar problem.
1. Try turning it off and then back on. This worked for me. After charging most of a day and a night, I noticed that my phone still showed 10% battery. It had been on the wall charger, so I moved it to the usb on my laptop thinking maybe syncing would help. The icon near iTunes said the charge was low, the phone said it was charging for a few seconds but then it showed the little plug to indicate it was charged, despite still showing red 10%. I had found a few suggestions on line and as unlikely as it seems, I turned it off, waited a second, turned it on... and it showed the full battery. The good news is that such a software issue should be easiliy fixed with an update, and as often as I am seeing this problem, it is pretty likely to be included.
2. That does not seem to work in all cases. If turning it off doesn't work, restoring it MIGHT, removing the SIM card MIGHT... but as much of a pain as it is... I recommend simply exchanging the phone, because while you might be able to nurse it along for a while, you want it repaired within that first year.
3. Don't let your kid play with your iPhone. I mean really?!? Drop it once... okay. But you don't just hand it back to them unless you really don't like your phone.

The main logic board has probably failed in most of these instances. If the battery will not accept a charge and the computer will not recognize the iPhone, the dock connector and the attached logic board have probably failed. Replacing the entire logic board is the best bet here.

Had the same problem. Forgot to plug in the charger last nite and after about one hour of video watching this AM battery charge state was 10% and red. Left iPhone plugged into charger at office all day, but charge state remained at 10%. Got home and tried to sync with desktop and battery still wouldn't take charge. Tried using the iTunes restore function and problem was relolved.

I had the same problem. I am currently travelling around South America with my phone and therefore it would be a real pain to have had to taken it to a "Genius" in an Apple store or worse still, sent it away for repair, leaving me without music, photos, a camera etc.
Anyway, the problem is resolved - here´s what I tried and what worked for me: 1. Different chargers, cables, etc. - didn´t work 2. Hard reset - holding down Power and Home buttons - didn´t work 3. Plugging into a PC and rebooting the PC - didn´t work 4. Downloading iTunes on the Internet Cafe´s PC and putting the iPhone into Recovery mode - holding down Power and Home and releasing Power - worked!! ... although not at first.
iTunes recognised the iPhone and prompted to start recovery. I clicked Recover, reluctantly, as this would essentially reformat the phone, deleting all my music, photos, etc., and installing (I assume un-jailbroken) OS 4.0.
While iTunes was downloading the OS image, I unplugged the phone and went out for dinner, leaving the phone to charge in a wall socket (hoping the iPhone might come to life, meaning I wouldn´t have to Recover it). When I returned, the iPhone was still stuck on the empty / charging screen (with the slither of red). I unplugged it and went to bed, planning to continue my quest in the morning.
This morning, I did a hard reset into Recovery mode as above in order for iTunes to recognise it. Low and behold, the Apple logo and the unlock screen appeared! Relief! Everything intact.
So in summary, what worked for me seemed to be: 1. Connect phone to PC with iTunes open. 2. Hard reset into Recovery mode (Power + Home for 10 secs then releasing Power) (iTunes recognises iPhone in Recovery mode) 3. Do another hard reset (Power + Home for 10 secs) Voila! Fully functional iPhone with no need to Recover!

I have solved this situation here:
Stock iphone 1st Gen (non jailbroken) yet....
Iphone powered up upon boot up to home screen battery pop up said "battery is down to 10%"
After plugging into desktop USB port iphone pop up went away..I assumed charging was starting...however minutes later iphone powered off...I attempted power up but screen showed battery logo with red strp...left for a minute and iphone booted to home screen and pop up reappered "battery is down 10%"...repeated steps above 2-3 times..still no go...then when iphone did come to the home screen I held the home button down and pwer button down together for about 30-45 seconds until iphone rebooted to apple logo...then released iphone then chirped indicating it confirmed it was plugged into something and ACCEPTING charge. All was well

My iphone can not be charge, then can not turn on my iphone, my iphone only show battery low and red light. So how can i do???

I had the same problem. My iphone was ok firsht thign this morning I made a call and put it in my bag. An hour later when I went to use it again it wouldn't switch on. I plugged it in and got the battery screen saying it had very low battery, even though it had been on charge all the previous night.
I left it on charge for 3 hours and nothing....did not charge at all and wouldn't do anything else.
I tried another charger, an in car charger, connecting to my laptop and my PC but nothing. The PC and laptop wouldnn't even recognise it. I tried all of the solutions suggested on here but nothing worked....I resigned to take it back to the apple store as it is less than 3 weeks old.
At the Apple store initially they were more than helpful. I was told that I couldn't even have an appointment for 3 days! I stood my ground and told them I wasn't leaving until it was sorted. Miraculosly two minues later I was seen by one of their "Genius'" who basically shined a light in the hole where the charger connects and said that it needed to be replaced, but they didn't have any and if they ordered one today it would be in next Wed or Thurs!!
I challenged this and eventually found out that they did have some in store but apparently they were new ones for sale only and could not be uesd for exchange for faulty items. I pointed out that under UK law faulty goods returned within 28 days were entitled to a brand new replacment or a refund...if that was the case then I would get a refund and simply buy one of the ones they said I couldn't have!!
They relented eventually and gave me a brand new one....after a lot of faffing about, crediting etc I got my replacement phone.
To say that I was more than frustrated at their service is an understatement. To go from being without a phone for over a week to getting one there and then just goes to show that if you know what to say and stand your ground they have to give you what you are entitled to.
Fingers crossed this doesn't happen again!!!

Do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747 (the guide)
and then take a toothbrush and clean the contact on the iPhone.

Had a similar prob with my 18 month old 16gig 3g today. It wouldn't charge in my car carger on the way to work. I got to work and it wouldn't regcognize my wall charger either. I connected it to my computer and it didn't recognize that either. The power button would cause the unlock home screen to appear but wouldn't go to the next stage to power off. I removed the sim card with no effect.
Solution: Hold home screen button & power button down together for 10 seconds then release the power button first. System re-started and now works fine.

I have the same problem. Dropped the phone too. I believe it is a broken or loose ribbon cable. I've opened my iphone and found that the ribbon cable was ok (the dock connector is attached to a ribbon cable which is routed under the battery and into the motherboard. I figured on dropping the iphone the connection was loose, but on trying to push the connector back in - I have made the problem even worse. The home button, sync and charge are all connected on this cable. Looks as though it may need replaced.

My iphone 3GS was at less than 10% battery when I plugged it in. It started to charge then went dead. It will not take a charge and will not turn on. Called apple and went through the trouble shooting process, nothing worked. Sent phone to apple and got a brand new one. Using my second new phone for a couple of months and I let the battery power go lower than 10% before placing it on the charger and have encountered the same problem. I will be sending this phone back to apple to get a new one.

My iPhone 3GS wouldnt charge with my computer nor the wall charger while it was saying it was going flat at 10% battery it tuned off and on twice now it won't let me delet applications and in order for it to actuall charge I have to plug it into my car charger let it get to 60% and then it will take to the wall charger but not my computer !!!! I had the same problem with my last one and I had it swapped and now this one is pretty much going the same way :( I don't know what to do I'm fed up with my iPhones playing up !!

Somebody has to open the iPhone and replace the dock connector module. The cheapest way is to do it your self and you should get aways with around $70. The part is available on ebay. Here's a iPhone Repair guide on how to disassemble an iPhone http://www.portatronics.com/guide. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you. If you want to pay to have a service do it for you there are third party iPod Repair Services

I have a brand new 3g and it just all the sudden turned off and showed the red battery icon, I left it charging all night, and now it wont turn on at all, I tried reset, no luck there either

Well, all you do is restart the main home button, take the home button off and there's a secret button under that which will turn it on within 3 seconds, i assure this will work with no problems then you put the button back on. there all problems solved.

I had the pretty same issue and the only thing that actually helped me was to remove my simcard, turn the iphone on and then plug it back in again. Hope it will work the same way for you!

If your iPhone has a blank screen, or a screen you can't get away from, try holding down the power and main buttons @ the SAME TIME! It worked for me!
