HP Laser Jet 4700n-Light printing on right side of paper. Removed all cartridges and toner, cleaned and recalibrated after start up. Still light printing on right side. Any suggestions??

For tha particular error you are facing, here is the reason. These printers have a switch that triggers an interrupt when the toner door is closed. Usually there is an arm on the door that pushes the switch. It is quite sensitive and delicate. Then sometimes there is a tab on the printer's toner and if that breaks off then that error will be generated.

But in your case as you have not removed or inserted the toner, I think option 1 is applicable to you.

Now, if this printer is in warranty you should send it to HP for Free repair/replacement.

By load the toner, if you mean inserting the toner cartridge.Then i will give you instructions.In laser toner printer, there is toner cartridge, and not ink jet cartridge.In laser toner cartridges, there is a black color toner power and it does have any liquid ink, which ink jet cartridges have.To remove the laser toner cartridge from hp laser jet 1100 printer, its simple.The front door open and old toner cartridge comes out.Just pull the front door towards you.While inserting cartridge.If you have problem, then take note that, sticker side of the cartridge is towards you.On the cartridge there is a rectangle flap, which you hold in your hand.This is meant for holding the cartridge, while removing and inserting cartridge.The stick side will be in your side.There is a green color drum, the drum side will be on opposite site.-------------- Still any problem.Keep updated.But i think that will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

If this just started after you replaced the toner cartridge, one would have to say that it is a bad toner cartridge.
Print something that smudges. Pull down the front cover and look at the cartridges. Pay attention to the top one(black).
Look at the drum on that cartridge. You should see the toner sitting there. Compare it to the other cartridges which should be clean.

Replace the Magenta toner cartridge. It is defective.

Usually either a toner cartridge running out or damp paper.

Take the toner cartridge out and shake it side-to-side to loosen and redistribute the toner inside. If that fixes it, pat yourself on the back for now, but buy a spare cartridge right away.

Take a good look at your paper after printing. If it's severely curled, warped, lumpy, or creased, it may be because moisture in the paper is causing it to bend under the heat of the fuser inside the printer. The same moisture can keep toner from being attracted evenly to the paper. (Laser printers and copiers all rely on static electricity, and moisture dissipates a static charge quickly.)

Don't bother trying to dry damp paper; it will never be flat enough for a laser printer or copier again. Give to your kids for projects or something.

First of all you may have 1 or 2 things going on here. First of all the HP2600 series is prone to having the laser optics get toner dust on them which causes light prints usually on on side or the other. If your light print on one side is on black and all the colors then it may be the fusing unit. Another indicator of the fuser being the cause is the double imaging.....meaning something that is printed at the top of the page gets re-printed farther down the page. Does any of the print, especially on the double image/light side rub off? If so then it is definately the fuser. In case you don't know the fusing unit is the part that heats up and "fuses" the toner onto the paper. It is located right where the paper exits the machine. You can try a test for a fuser problem by printing something then shutting the printer off before the paper starts to exit the printer. Open up the printer and look at the sheet being printed. Is it light on the one side before it goes thru the fuser? If so then you need to clean the laser optics. If it is not lighter then this will prove the fuser is the cause. You can find the fuser units all over the net and they are easy to swap out. As far as the laser optics go you can try the basic cleaning yourself by removing the 4 toner cartridges. Behind these units you will see kind of a large black box with 4 evenly spaced "slots" running from side to side. Inside these slots is a plastic lens that the laser beam goes thru on it's way to the toner cartridges. Just take a cue tip/cotton swab and clean these 4 slots. Once clean just re-install the toners and test to see if the print quality issue is improved. Sometimes the whole laser box assembly must be removed, dis-assembled and cleaned. I recommend you hire someone to do this as it can get a bit much if you do not have experience with these machines.

Changing the print cartridge Follow the below instructions to change the print cartridge:

1. Open the print cartridge door, and remove the old print cartridge. See the recycling information inside the print cartridge box. Figure 1: Removing old print cartridge CAUTION: To prevent damage, do not expose the print cartridge to light. Cover it with a piece of paper.
2. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging, and gently shake it from side to side to distribute the toner evenly inside the cartridge. Figure 2: Gently shaking new print cartridge

turn off the machine. open upper front cover. remove the old fuser and insert the new one. turn on the machine and enjoy your printer with new fuser kit.

Sounds like a defective toner cartridge. Try replacing it

Check toner cartridge for leaks Also clean any excess toner from the paper path. If this doesn't help you may need to remove the fuser assembly (make sure the printer has been unplugged for a while!) and check the fuser roller for baked on toner. This can be cleaned off with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. Do not scratch the roller as it can cause streaking!
