Dryer smells hot

Running dryer, noticed hot smell on the outside of dryer. no odor inside the dryer. checked for lint both in dryer and ductwork, not the problem..

how do i check the belt or motor? which is more likely to cause odor?

Thanks in advance,
Jill

When the dryer is running there is a smell similiar to a fuel or burning smell. The dryer appears to run fine during these times. All lint areas have been cleaned including the outside vent and the top lint filter. The dryer is on a separate fuse box in the basement.

When you say you checked for lint inside the dryer, did you check where the heating element is located? This is generally where lint accumulates and can cause a burning smell. Do you have a top mounted lint trap, or a lint trap inside the door? This will determine just where your heating circuits are and how to take the dryer apart to inspect.

Hi ,

run a load in fluff no heat and see if the smell develops again, if it does then I would suspect the motor or belt. generally most dryers are serviceable from the rear, the whole back panel usually, make sure you unplug it of course. make sure your not overloading your machine with clothes. It should never be more than half full ever. a slipping belt causes a burnout smell like when a car spins its tires at the races, if thats it you might need a new belt or your idler pulley may need to be bent a little so the belt runs tighter, study it

Burning plastic smell when cold out run heater and fan inside car and out

Are you loosing radiator fluid. sometimes the heater core will rupture and you will smell burn odor. also check for strange rubbing sounds or screeching coming from the blower fan motor. or engine exhaust manifolds are hot when car is on, make sure nothing is leaning on them which will cause a burn odor. Any odor coming from outside will find it's way inside through the fresh air vents.

Why are the clothes coming out of the dryer smelling musty? we have the lg tromm dle5977w

The problem might not be with the dryer, but with the washer. Let me explain. When I first got my LG w/d set, I did a web search, and found that front load washers tend to build up bacteria and mold(which one person said was staining her clothes). The solution was to leave the door of the washer open when not in use. That worked for me for the most part, but the musty smell persisted. I found that the soap tray was getting dirty(from mold/bacteria), and the area inside was even worse. So now I remove the soap tray when not using the washer. Also, some appliance stores have cleaning packs that dissolve in an empty washer load. They are supposed to clean out residue and kill bacteria that cause odor in "HE" washers that may only be noticeable from the dryer. The brand name of the product I have is "Washer Fresh", and they're about $12 for 6 "PowerPacs".

Odor

Hi,
If you don't clean out the lint trap frequently, your dryer may have small lint fires inside the cabinet. The smell from these fires can leave a strong odor in the clothes drum. Also, if there are any solvents, paints, lacquers, etc. in use in the house, your dryer may alter and/or amplify the fumes to an odor unlike the natural fumes given by the solvent, paint, etc.
Here's what to do:
  1. First, clean all of the lint from the inside cabinet and ductwork of your dryer.
  2. Move all containers of flammable liquids at least 50 feet away from the dryer.
  3. Then, try to clear the odor, by running a couple of loads of old rags or towels.

Burning smell during drying cycle, coming from the inside back left grate. The grate appears discolored.

Usually when a gas dryer overheats it's because of a defective cycling thermostat or a clogged vent system. Clean any lint from the internal and external ductwork, and/or replace the cycling thermostat . Dryer burning smell

Have you painted or stained in your house or apartment recently? The smell gets everywhere, dryer, stove, heating unit. I recently primed with Kilz and the clothes from my dryer smelled burned. When I called for service, it was the first question the service person asked and said they made a lot of useless trips only to find nothing wrong with the appliance. That was my case. I had to rewash clothes and let the dryer run with towels for a while
