LCD SCREEN BLANK . ONE SHORT BEEP, AND TWO LONG BEEPS . WINDOWS xp PRO installed. SometimesSreen will stay on long enough for password, then go blank.? sometime it will even reboot after password done? I have NO computer smarts at all except for basics.....Please help

Check that the LCD screen adjustment has not been dimmed or darkened. If that is not the case, then a component is or has most likely failed.

It appears you have a memory or motherboard problem, most likely a RAM problem. Try reseating the RAM modules, if this doesn't work, then remove the RAM and take them to your friendly computer repair shop to get them to test the RAM modules for you. If the RAM is faulty them replace.

this beeps are signal of a dead cpu or memory. Check with manufacturer to confirm diagnostics.

The first issue you had with one long beeps and two short beeps is a memory module error. see the following HP website:

Start your pc when you get to the screen that shows in the top right corner F2 & F12 at this time press F8. At this point you can either scroll down to and click on " Last Good Configuration" this should the problem.

does your screen just go black or actually shut off
try and click f8 continuosly while restarting see if that will get you into safe mode
If not you may need to reinstall recovery again

One long followed by two short beep IS a video error. However, your model laptop does not have a separate video card. The only fix is to replace the mother board. Here is the service manual that will show you how to take apart the laptop and even give you the part number you would need to replace the motherboard.

Check the ram on board, reseat it and try again. Sounds like a memory problem to me.
