Unit powers down when viewing route profile

I have Topo GB V2 on a 2GB card. If I plan an on-road route then try to view the profile from the menu option on the route text screen the screen slowly fades to blank and I have to power up afresh. The route is still there and directions etc still work OK after the power down. Doesn't happen every time and is more likely the longer the route. Any idea what's happening? I believe I have the latest op system from the web. May not be related but in case it is, several of the games don't work properly. They load but I cannot move the cursor with the arrow keys. All that happens is I get an error beed (and zapped by the oncoming asteroids/aliens or whatever!). All other functionality seems OK - and very impressive.

Set up i pad 2

The Apple iPad 2 with Wi-Fi and 3G allows you to browse the Internet using a Wi-Fi connection or a cellular connection.

You can purchase an iPad with an internal Verizon 3G network card.

Verizon has several pay-as-you-go plans to choose from in order to activate their service. Verizon has 1 GB, 3 GB, 5GB and 10GB data plans with no contracts that can be activated within the iPad 2 device.

Power on your iPad.

Slide your finger across the iPad to unlock the device. Enter your passcode if applicable.

Tap "Settings," "Cellular Data," "View Account."

Enter your "First Name," "Last Name" and "Telephone Number."

Enter your email address and password. This creates an account on the Verizon network where you can view your data usage and make changes if applicable.

Tap one of the following plans: "1 GB data per month for $20," "3 GB data per month for $35," "5 GB data per month for $50" and "10 GB data per Month for $80."

Tap the applicable credit card for payment and billing. Credit cards available are the following: "Visa," "MasterCard," "Discover" and "Amex."

Enter your "Credit Card," "Name," "Expiration Date," "Security Code" and "Billing Address." Tap "Next" to continue.

Review the Terms of Service and tap "Agree."

Review Billing and credit card information and tap "Submit." Activation happens immediately and you can begin using your iPad via a cellular connection.

Hope this helps

Unable to import/export my 3D floor plans.

Check these answers / Options

1 - Upgrade Hardware

You don't describe your video card and processor specs however, there are some basic parameters
- If you have an onboard video card you can't upgrade just the video card, because it is an integrated unit, but you can update all the drivers
- In my opinion, onboard video cards and chipsets(almost all of them) have low performance for rendering purposes
- In my experience, just a better video card doesn't solve the issue--> you'll need a good "render set"--> good processor (2.6 GHz or up)+ plenty of memory (4 Gb or up) + a good videocard (512 Mb or up).

2 - Punch files

- If you are working with a heavy file, including lots of furniture, topo, etc, you should upgrade the hardware elements, but the issue is more related with the file
- If you have a slow performance with any Punch file (with just a wall, for example), then yes, a hardware upgrade is in order.
But even this, will depend of the computer / processor you have. All the elements work together as I stated above

3 - Tips

- Click on the pencil/plan icon (depending of your versions) at the top of the LiveView window (Render and Navigation Options). Clicking on the different icons you can disable temporarily the lights or 3D objects, or topo etc. This will speed the rendering during the working process

- Use View--> Render Clear view--> use this during the elaboration time

- Try to apply the 3d objects (cabinets, furniture, etc) and topography at last

- You can turn off the "Undo" feature--> Edit--> Undo preferences. This will speed your work. Just remember to save frequently (because this step deactivates the autosave for backup feature)

- To get a good Punch performance, close other programs, including the e-mail. Perhaps, other programs are using resources otherwise required in Punch.
Also I'd suggest that you try Pat's Training e-book for more resources

How do you select most use of freeways to avoid back roads? My Magellan was easy to use in that regard.

Hello,

Go to the Tools > Settings > Navigation > and press the button under Avoidances.
Use the arrow down and place a check mark in the box beside Unpaved Roads and then press OK.
Also, go to the Tools > Settings > Navigation > and setting the Route Preference to Faster Time will usually route using freeways. This is not always the case, as some secondary roads are paved and the unit will route to them if it calculates that this will be a faster route.
It is usually a good idea to familiarize yourself with an unknown route. This can be done after creating the route and touching the map screen. Zoom out to view sections of the route. Via points can then be added to modify the route as necessary.

Topo maps

hi peter, firstly the only difference you would notice with topo maps is that the unit will now display contour lines and they will only be visible when you are viewing the map not when you are in the navigation mode.

the contour lines are brown lines on the map that represent different heights above sea level.

Can't view downloaded sections from Garmin Topo

In Map Setup page, scroll over to blue 'ball' icon (second from right), press lower left button on side of GPS unit, use Thumb switch to scroll down to "Show None", click Thumb switch in. All maps will disappear. Press lower left button on side of GPS unit again, scroll down to "Show Topo.....", click Thumb switch in. Your Topo maps should now show onscreen.

The reason your Topo map might not have shown is because, if you leave the Navigator map showing, and then just press "Show Topo", the layer showing Topo will still be under the Navigator map. This is why I always tell it to show none, and then load whatever map I need to see onto a bare screen.

If this solved your problem, please come back and rate our answer as this assists others. Thank you.
