I suspect the power supply, you need to put a multi-meter across the contacts to be sure at the plug that goes into the laptop.

The lamp doesnt mean much.

Hp 4510s not charging

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

POWER SUPPLY & BATTERY PROBLEM
If thelaptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED lightup? My Acer aspire 4935 is not recognizing the AC adapter. When ever I shutdown the system and connects the AC adapter, it works and the charging LED lights up. Once I press the power button to boot the...

Problem description:The battery charges only when the laptop turned off. The battery charge LED lights up as normal and the battery gets charged to 100% while the laptop is off.
When the laptop is turned on, the battery charge LED goes off even if the adapter is still plugged in.
Possible cause:1. AC power adapter failure.
2. Battery failure.
3. Broken/loose power jack.
4. Motherboard failure.
Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution:1. This problem could be related to a faulty AC power adapter. It's possible that the AC adapter doesn't provide enough power when plugged into the laptop. To find out if this is your problem, you'll have to test the laptop with another working adapter.Replace the adapter if needed.

2. There is a slight chance that you have bad battery. Test the laptop with a know good battery and replace the faulty one if needed.

3. The battery charge problem could be related to the power jack. Maybe the jack is broken or not making good contact with the motherboard. It is necessary to remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. Resolder or replace the jack if needed.

4. If the power jack is in a good working shape and new power adapter with battery do not fix the problem, most likely you have a faulty motherboard. Replace the motherboard if needed.

Won't turn on. Battery is plugged in and lit. n

Try removing your battery pack. Then connect the power adaptor (even without the battery) and connect is directly to the power outlet. If it powers up, then the battery pack might be defective or totally drained.

If the battery is just totally drained, simply place the battery to the laptop. Do not turn the laptop on. Plug the power adaptor to the laptop and plug it to the power source. If you see that the charging LED is blinking in your laptop, then just leave it charging up to 5 to 8 hours.

Never use a laptop on battery mode while it is plugged in to a power source. This is the number 1 reason why laptop batteries don't last longer.

I would try another power supply, as the one you have may not be providing enough power to both run and charge the laptop.

Acer 4670 Will not charge battery

Hi Darnell, this seems to be a common issues with the charging circuit on many Acer laptop models.
I would recommend turning your laptop off, placing the battery in the laptop, and then plugging in the AC adaptor to the wall.  Some people are finding that this will actually charge the battery.  Your other alternative is to remove the battery and connect the AC adaptor to the wall and computer, this should run your laptop.
The common problem people are finding is that the charging circuit inside the laptop is malfunctioning after a certain amount of wear and tear (dropping the laptop, leaving it out in cold weather, etc) so If the above temporary solutions I mentioned failed you, you should check to see if it the laptop is still under warranty and send it in for repair because it is most definitely hardware related problem (and you made sure it was not the power cord or battery already by replacing them).
Also, are you certain your new battery is compliant with your laptop model and that you weren't sold the wrong battery type?
Hope this helps, and don't forget to rate/vote.

"Plugged in, not charging", Toshiba Satellite A135 S4527, under Windows Vista Home Premium

It sounds like the power socket on the laptop is faulty and needs replacing or resoldering. To check this, power up the latop with the power adapter, wriggle the plug in the power socket and check if the battery charge indicator flicks on and off indicating charging and not charging. If it indicator flicks on and off then you have a faulty power socket.
This can be repaired but required the laptop to be completely dismantled to access the power connector.
