How to remove print head of epson stylus photo r1800 BEWARE SPAM NUMBER +1-800-532-4187 BELOW

I have a epson stylus photo r1800 and I want to be able to remove the print head for cleaning the outside of the jets by squirting solvent over them over my sink.  How can I do it?  Is it easy?  And while I'm at it how about the sponges that catch the ink when the cleaning cycle is going.  Can those be removed/cleaned? Thanks for your help.

Got the same problem ink clog from hell on my photoblack.
Tried multiple cleaning, used the SSC utilities for recharging and extended cleaning and even injected cleaning fluid into the heads but can't clear it .

The only option now is to take the head off and clean it, but how?

Same issue with a different epson printer - I have an Epson r260 and the black ink is completely clogged - I've tried injecting alcohol (and 409 after I got desperate...) through printhead from the top, and putting it on the parking pad overnight but the black is still clogged. I would like to remove the print heads but I couldn't figure out how to do this - anyone else know the basic method?

How to remove print head of epson stylus photo r1800 problem,

  • ifemo Mar 09, 2009

My Epson R1800 print head is clogged and will not print even after several (and I mean several!) manual and auto cleaning. I had not used it for a while after its cyan ink ran out and upon replacement, I had not been able to use it due to the clogging.

i want to remove the print head and clean it how do i do that

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2009

We want to buy a maintenance kit for our R1800, or at least find out how to take the print head off for cleaing. It's costing us a fortune in ink cartridges. Every time the heads need cleaning it asks for 5 or more new catridges, but we know they haven't been used enough to warrant replacement. Can't help thinking that Epson keep the printers cheap and make their money on the ink. Besides, it's usually only the matt black cartridge that's causing gaps in prints, so after printing a nozzle check, it would be great to be able to select which head needs cleaing, rather than the printer cleaning them all.

Had the same problem - but the print head is actually easy to remove.

1) Remove ink cartridges
2) Remove 3 Phillips head screws at the bottom of the cartridge housing. (looking down from the printer front - top left, bottom left, top right).
3) There are 2 small plastic tabs on a plastic bracket that secure the flex cable on the right hand side of the cartridge housing. Gently release the tabs with a small flat head screw driver.
4) Lift the print head straight up (don't pull on the flex).

There may be a release for the flex to separate from the print head. But I did not see one. Instead I poured 1/4" of Windex in the bottom of a small plastic container and soaked my print head for about 15 minutes (occasionally agitating).

Then put back in reverse order - be sure to seat the flex in the guide (top-back-right) of the cartridge housing before screwing down. Then run a cleaning or two to flush the cleaning fluid out of the print head. (I have a waste ink tank installed so I am not worried about dumping excessive ink into the waste sponges).

The differences was remarkable - though there was still slight banding - maybe should have soaked longer (1 hr perhaps?) - I may repeat if it remains an issue.

Additionally there were large solid deposits on the left side of the print head which were responsible for scraping heavier weight photo paper. These dissolved in the Windex too.

After performing the above directions. I can no longer print. Please do not miss understand, I REALLY appreciate the direction that was given. Very concise. Worked great. However my end result was less that promising. As a result I have a CISS system that I just bought about two months ago wasted.

Again. THANK YOU for the tutorial. It was great. I just wish I understood where I went wrong.

I have a green OK on but It will not print, will not run a test page and the error message is no help either - what should I do? besides wanting to throw it out the window?

Hello, have you tried a self-test print? which is one initiated at the printer, NOT through the computer.
If you don't know how to perform one, try pasting the link below into your web browser and having a look at the info from the Epso website.
http://www.epson.co.uk/Printers-and-All-In-Ones/Inkjet/Epson-Stylus-Photo-R1800/Drivers-Support?target=article&extn=.html&articleId=1365

If you can prove the printer self-test works, then your problem's maybe on the computer side of things; maybe even a driver. If the printer self-test (NOT to be confused with the Windows self-test) DOESN'T work, then take a look at the faq's on the Epson website under 'drivers and support' as below.
http://www.epson.co.uk/Printers-and-All-In-Ones/Inkjet/Epson-Stylus-Photo-R1800/Drivers-Support

Hope this helps!
Kind regards,

Epson Stylus R1800 is not printing correctly. It is skipping spots leaving clear areas across the page. Changed all the cartridges.

your problem is not with the inks it is with the printhead... try running the maintenance and head cleaning... epson is notorious for print heads getting clogged!! good luck

Printhead protector

Hi-

Nope you dont need one. Just turn the printer off while not in use or if youre planning not to use it for a long time, run some head cleaning cycles as well and print a nozzle check before printing photos. have the same printer and love them so much.

Thanks for using fixya!
