Remove the cover of the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor. It will be obvious if it is bad.

Door sensors have nothing to do with door opening. Only closing. It sounds like you have a bad gear in the motor unit. Remove the cover and it will be obvious if the gear is bad.

Garage door opener model 139.53985 DM opens only about 2 feet then stops then closes when the button is pressed again; will open when I put pressure on the door and continue that pressure all the way up.

On the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go you will find the 'up force' control. Increase this a bit and try. Make sure you don't have a broken door spring.

You will need to loosen the chain enough to take the tension off and then run the motor until the door closes. While the door is closed turn the up limit control 2 full turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now tighten the chain. It sounds like you have additional problems. Check the door springs and then remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor and may be stripped. You also may have been turning the limit controls the wrong direction.

My garage door opener only opens the door 1-2 feet high and then stops. What could be the problem?

My guess is that you have a broken spring. Look at the springs and see if you can see a gap in one of them. If you pull the release and you can't open the door without struggling then you definately have something wrong. The opener is trying to heft weight that it is not designed for and is stopping itself to prevent damage.

How do I reset my garage door opener. It is a Coromaster 2000 motor. The closing and opening setting are out and the motor only stops due to resistance.

The Coromaster 2000 does not operate off limit switches. It has a quarter-revolution optical pulse counter. To re-program the open and close limits do the following: Ensure that the door is open at least a couple of feet. Press the reset button once or twice Short out pushbutton and common and hold until close limit and then release. Door should stop at your new close limit. Wait 5 seconds. Short out pushbutton and common and door will open. Hold the short until open limit and then release. Limits should now be set.

Liftmaster 1/2 hp won't open

Turn the gears again by hand like you did and lower the door a couple feet. Now find the 'up limit' on the side of the motor unit and using a small screwdriver turn this about 3 turns in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Now you can go ahead and operate the door.

Lift master garage door opener. Motor makes noise when switch is hit likes its running but chain/sprocket doesn't move and the door is stuck open. Chain is on sprocket. Not sure if the motor is frozen? ...

I had the same problem. Took the cover off of the opener and found that the gears were stripped on the unit. Motor was fine. You can order gear replacement kit for the unit. They are a plastic type sprocket and worm gears. The kit comes with spindles and all necessary clips. You have to take the unit off the ceiling to replace the gears, but the process if very easy to do. Parts kit about $40 on line, much cheaper than a new door opener. Total process took less than 2 hours, including getting the unit down and back up again.

My garage door opener doesnt close all the way.

The motor is probably either stalling because the door is too stiff, or you have a beam break detector that is being triggered when the door is halfway down.
