I have a Yamaha HTR 5740 which I use for Home Theatre. Often times, I have a hard time hearing the spoken dialogue coming from the center front speaker over the background coming through the other four speakers. I have misplaced my manual and this device overwhelms me with all its buttons. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this? I hear better with my TV speaker turned up than I do from my surround sound system which I paid a lot of money for. Thank You.
I had the same problem, first you can download the manual online to see how to reset the speakers. next, make sure you have true digital audio input with a fiber optic or like connector. you should see little LED symbols of r/l/c/w/rr/rl etc. If you just see R and L, it is not getting a true signal.
But what worked the best was getting a better, devoted, CENTER speaker, not just a speaker in the center, but one devoted to dialogue.
good luck

I have the same problem. It has worked intermittantly, and seems to be fixed if I mess with the speakers sometimes. I got mine in a Home Theater in a Box set, so I do have a dedicated ceter speaker, but even changing the speaker-specific volume levels doesn't seem to help.
