There are no ways to set timing like the older vehicle. These are done through mechanical timing(timing belt), CPS(crank position sensor), and the computer. What kind of probelms are you having?

Although a KIA manual will state that this is an interference engine, it is not. I know because I have replaced a shredded timing belt on my used 2000 Sportage to take it home and it ran great. Just recently, the timing idler pulley bolt broke while I was driving causing the belt to come off. I replaced the tensioner pulley and drilled out and re-tapped the idler bolt hole and installed the new idler and the belt (it was only 2 months old at the time) and it runs great again. THESE ARE NOT INTERFERENCE ENGINES!!!! you don't have to tear down the top end of the engine to inspect for any damage and it is very simple to install a timing belt on this motor as long as it is done properly.

there are vacum line one on each side behide the wheels see if they are broke or leaking i had the same problem

On small shift behinde gear lever there is 3 settings. H4 = 4 wheel drive high range, L4 = 4 wheel drive low range, h2 = 2 wheel drive high range. as soon as jou engage to 4 wheel drive a green light on the dash board will appear to indicate that the car is in 4 wheel drive. if not check fuse - check air pipes at front wheels. Below are the steps..

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the two fresh air duct mounting bolts on the radiator. Loosen the fresh air duct clamp at the intake housing. Remove the hose at the resonance chamber. Remove the frech air duct. Remove the five cooling fan shroud bolts. Remove the four thermo-modulated fan nuts. Remove the four thermo-modulated fan cooling fan shroud at the same time. Loosen the two generator mounting bolts(A and B). Loosen the generator drive belt from the generator by loosening the adjusting bolt(C). Remove the generator drive belt. Remove the fan pulley. Remove the four splash guard mounting bolts and splash guard. Loosen the A/C idler puller nut(A). Remove the A/C drive belt by loosening the adjusting bolt. Loosen the power steering pump lock bolt and mounting bolt. Remove the power steering belt. Remove five bolts and the upper timing belt cover. Refer to Timing Belt. Remove two bolts and the lower timing cover. Refer to Timing Belt. Loosen the tensioner lock bolt and pivot the tensionder pulley outward to remove the tension from the timing belt, then re-tighten the tensioner lock bolt. NOTE: Tightening Torque : 27-38ft·lbs(37-52N·m) Mark the timing belt rotation for proper reinstallation if it reused. Remove the timing belt. Be careful not to allow oil grease on the belt. both cams should have the marks point to 12 o clock and the crank lines up with mark on the block

Hi, Just to clarify and clear things up, the motor used in the 1998 to 2002 Kia Sportage is actually the Mazda FE3 engine and it is a NON-INTERFERENCE engine.

i have a 2000 kia sportage the timing belt broke and the 2.0 is a zero clearance motor.you need to find out if it bent the valves.it did in mine.
