Jump the two thermostat wires together at the thermostat, if it fires up; it is a bad thermostat. Jump the terminals where the thermostat connects to at the gas valve, if the unit fires it is a bad thermostat wire or connection. If the unit does not fire, check for 24 volts AC out of the transformer. If yes, bad gas valve, if no bad transformer or no power to transformer.

Timing of the magneto to the coil is critical. so is the gap between the magnet and the coil. Double check both, the gap can be set to .01 to .019 depending on the make and model of the motor and you did not post that.

My whirlpool dryer comes on and runs good but it wont get hot can you tell me whats the problem

Hello there and welcome to fixya there are several things that could make this dryer not heat up
Here are the most common things

Thermal Fuse

If the dryer doesn\'t heat, but the drum
turns, check the thermal fuse(s). The thermal fuse protects the dryer
from overheating and helps to prevent fires. If the thermal fuse is
blown, it will have to be replaced.

Enter your model number to see parts for your dryer.

Help me find my model number

Gas Valve Solenoid

The gas valve has two or more electric
solenoids which open the valve to let the gas flow into the burner
assembly. If the dryer doesn\'t heat one or more of the solenoids may be
defective. If the igniter glows for 90 seconds but the burner flame
doesn\'t light, replace these coils as a set.

Dryer Igniter

If the dryer doesn\'t heat, the igniter might
be burned out. Check the igniter for continuity with an ohm meter. Dryer
igniters burn out over time, similar to a light bulb.

Heating Element

The heating element on an electric dryer can
burn out over time. If the dryer doesn\'t heat, the element should be
checked for continuity. The heating element cannot be repaired and must
be replaced if defective.

Heating Element Assembly

the heating element assembly on an electric
dryer can burn out over time. If the dryer doesn\'t heat, the element
assembly should be checked for continuity. The heating element assembly
cannot be repaired and must be replaced if defective.

Flame Sensor

Gas dryers have a flame sensor to detect the
heat given off by the flame. If the dryer doesn\'t heat, the flame sensor
might be defective. Check the flame sensor for continuity. This is not
as common as a burned out igniter or thermal fuse.

High Limit Thermostat

Although not common, if the dryer doesn\'t
heat the high limit thermostat can be defective. It can be checked for
continuity. If the thermostat is "open" the dryer doesn\'t heat.

Cycling Thermostat

The cycling thermostat regulates the
temperature of the air in the dryer. If the dryer doesn\'t heat it may be
caused by a defective cycling thermostat. This is not common.

Main Control Board

The main control board is normally not at
fault when the dryer doesn\'t heat. Check all of the other components in
this troubleshooting guide before replacing the main control board. The
main control board cannot be tested easily and must be replaced if it is
defective.

Timer
The timer is normally not at fault if the
dryer doesn\'t heat. In many situations where timers are replaced they
end up being returned. Check all of the more common components in this
troubleshooting guide before replacing the timer

96 Firebird, Replaced water pump, fuel pump - Now blows head gasket.

Get yourself another mechanic. This guy is not doing his job. It shouldn't cost $1600 to change a water pump and fuel pump. No proper mechanic would remove a thermostat to replace the O-ring and put the old thermstat back in. It wouldn't be uncommon for the coolant level to drop after changing the thermostat. It probably only needs to be topped up. No, the motor doesn't have to come out to replace the head gasket and I don't see it costing $2500. Before you spend any more money there, take the car somewhere else and get another opinion. I bet that if you fill up the coolant bottle for 2 0r 3 days it will stop losing coolant. Hope this helps.

My first thought would be: If you repaired an emissions hose, take the car back to Auto Zone (or another parts supplier) and let them tell you what code comes up now. You eliminated one problem, now you have to find another.
I wouldn't do a fuel pump without more information.

Car heat rises right to the red then if you turn on the heater it fall to half way mark. if i remove the thermostat will it fix enough to sell it. and is it in upper hose or lower?

Doesn't sound like a thermostat problem. I would look at the radiator grill and make sure it isn't clogged and check the water pump to make sure it is working and check the cooling fan for the radiator. The heater in the car has lines connected to the motor and when that is opened and the water is allowed to flow through you have essentially a mini radiator working. The thermostat may in fact be sticking but I would look at other areas for the main problem. If you have been running straight water and not a mix with antifreeze the radiator core may be clogged from build up. Finally, make sure your overflow jug is properly filled and the radiator is topped off. As far as selling the vehicle without a thermostat, to overcome the proper so you can unload it. I wouldn't, they have made significant changes to the laws regarding this tactic and it can come back to haunt you, additionally if you take it to a dealer they are going to check for that trick the same way they check for Sawdust in the transmission and metal in the engine oil before they offer to buy it or take it in trade because they can lose their license if they get caught selling a vehicle that way.

For bdjenn, I have a 94 850 non turbo with similar problem. You might need to replace the fuel pump relay. Part costs about $50, is located next to fuse box. Also, check the thermostat in the air box under the air filter. The thermostat costs about $20 and often goes bad. When not working, it fails to shut off the hot air and doesn't let cooler, outside air in. Many people just remove the thermostat and fix the cool air intake to stay in the open position. This could be a problem in the winter if you live in a cold climate.
