Ice is building up in the refrigerator vents

Ice is building up in the refrigerator vent on the side and some at the top. We were told to melt ice, reset the controls and even leave the door open a little while to stabilize control settings. This worked for about 2 weeks and ice built up again. The bottom vent is a chunk of ice.

SOURCE: side by side Maytag frig that is warm on top, not bottom

You can turn the thermostat off for now to let the ice thaw out, if a door was left open there might not be anything wrong, but if it freezes up again sounds like you might have a bad defrost heater or defrost limit. Hope this helps

Loud noise and ice build up on the back panel of refrigerator

i had a similar problem with ice building up on the back vent. it turned out to be the fan motor was not turning. i unplugged my refrigerator and used a hair blower to melt the ice. don't hold the hair blower to close to the vent so you will not damage the plastic vent.

Fridge looses temperature

Make sure the two vents from the top of the fridge that run into the freezer are not blocked or obstructed in anyway, that's what the problem was in ours. Also do not allow ice to build up on the vents in the freezer.

Refrigerator is warm. found ice packed in vents on frig side cleaned them out but now we noticed that the vents in the back of freezer are also packed with frozen ice build up. could this be the reason for...

That ice is the reason that the freezer is working but the refrigerator is not cooling. That ice is
blocking the vent that allows cool air to leave the freezer section andfall down into the refrigerator
section.
The fix is free: defrost the frig - pull the plug, and let that icce melt out of there, clean up the
wet mess, and turn the frig back on - problem solved.
Keep the vent area free of ice (and other blockages, like frozen peas covering over the vent), and
you'll keep the problem from recurring.

Vent flows cold air through frezer to right side when door open, but no flow when freezer door is closed. Temp drop in fridge side. Vent is cleared of ice build up.

Good day,
There are 2 vents. The one on the top to allow air from the freezer into the fridge. There is a second one, a return on the bottom left that allows the air to return to the freezer.
The return vent is the one that is blocked. (iced up).
On your model, it is very difficult to melt the ice out especially using heat due to all the plastic and foam.
Although ugly, it is best to unplug the machine, and leaving both doors open fo 24 hours.

Kitchenaid KSRA25IL Freezer working Fine - Refrigerator not

many times when a unit has a defrost problem the coils freeze up and do not allow the fresh food side to cool properly...check for a build up of ice on the inside back wall of the freezer compartment. if there is a build up of ice, you have a defrost problem. Also, check to make sure the evaporator fan in the freezer is blowing the air into the fresh food side.
