Maytag top load washer

I have a Maytag Performa top load washer and no matter how big the load it shakes and bangs violently on spin cycle. Enough to move it across the floor. It seems to be level but one of the legs seems a bit spongy. Other than that it works great. Any advice would be appreciated as I am capable of fixing it myself if I know what to fix.

I have a LAT9806AAE Model Maytag Washer Quiet Plus II and it's begun to make a very loud banging sound like the drum was going to come unscrewed.
Ted Cohen's response looks like a winner. We'll look into it. Thanks!

This solution applys to many Maytag washing machines. Perhaps not all.
Maytags have three damper pads in the bottom of the machine that must be lubricated from time to time. If they are not, they can be ripped off. They are glued to the bottom of the machine, the drum rests on top of them. When they become dry or lost, the machine shakes violently and no amount
of leveling or load balancing will fix it. Replace and/or lubricate the pads and magically it works again.

This is not a difficult repair for those that have modest mechanical skills and a few basic tools.
replacement pads and lube come in an inexpensive kit.n

I will create a web page with instructions if there is interest.

Hello !

I have Maytag Washing Machine Model LA 390, when it gets to rinse and spin mode, it shakes and vibrates badly. The feet are leveled to ground but still it does shake. I would like some one to give me expert opinion, how to fix this problem. If damper pads are to be replaced I would really appreciate if I am guided how to do this. Thank you so much. M.J.

It sounds like the self-adjusting leg has lost its self adjustment. I would guess that this leg needs to be replaced and I don't think that this is a difficult fix. You do need to purchase a replacement leg (or pedestal) from Maytag. If the leg is welded to the machine, the repair will be harder. It will need a torch and welding rods and may have to be done by a professional.

You should know that an unbalanced, "walking" machine will, over a long period of time, lead to other problems and wear on the machine.

Hi,

Other than repairing that one leg that seems to not be holding its height, if your machine has the capability of lowering the spin cycle.. that would help. My machine is on a hardwood floor and if it spins at the top speed, it tends to walk too. I don't have the same machine you do, but I think they will all walk if all of the legs are not level. Another thing could be the drum on the inside is spinning out of balance. This probably doesn't help, but I hope it does.

My maytag washer is shaking violently on the rinse cycle

I am currently having the same issue with my Maytag A482. Not sure if you have found a fix yet, or if you have replaced your washer. My washer runs fine until it nears the end of the cycle, when it begins to spin and shake violently, enough to loosen the leveling feet and rock back and forth. I pulled the front panel of the machine off (two screws near the base in the front, and two clips at the top) and ran a load through it. It ran fine until the end, when the machine started shaking violently. I did notice a few small pieces of roundish felt looking material sitting on the bottom, which after some research looks like it may be the damper pad. I found these online:
Damper pad 203956
Replacement Damper 203725 for MAYTAG Laundry Appliances A482

I am hoping this will resolve the issue, I will order them this afternoon and install them once they arrive. I really hate to replace such a good washer with a new high efficiency unit, which all seem to have terrible reviews after a few months/year of use.

Maytag Performa Washer spins out of balance

There was a recall on the washer base, which caused the unbalanced problem. Find Technical Buletin TDL-0050B-B issued by Matag.

Front load washer shakes violently during spin cycle

On something like this you will need to remove the washer wrap to inspect the suspension springs & base assembly. Please see the link provided for accessing the inside of the washer. Be sure the shipping pins have been removed. The tub should float freely.

Ensure the washer is level by rocking it. If its level should'nt be able to move. You may have a weak floor. to checks this look to see if anything is vibrating around the washer.
