Black screen with all lights on
after the power is on the operating system didn''t load. It is only black screen.
I called hp today, for the black screen at bootup. He worked me through it perfectly. Seems when the machine sits idle too long the power starts to efecct the mother board. The solution was to remove powercord and battery, press the startup button for 30 seconds then plug back power cord and press power start button again... Then reinstall battery and start with it in again... Worked fin after that I guess hp is aware of this issue.......
It is possible that is a virus, especially as you did nothing that could have damaged the hardware. However - one other thing that may be causing this is a failed power supply. It may be that the computer is no longer getting enough power to run the graphics card properly. You could try removing any PCI cards and extra fans (appart from the CPU fan obviously) to see if that allows the PSU to provide more power to the graphics card. But there's no guarantees...how old is the PSU and is it branded?
Also, did you download anything whilst on the internet before hand? Or click yes to any of those warning prompts?
Id say the chances of it being a BIOS destryoing virus arnt too high, unless you already have suspicions about this.
Have you moved the machine at all ?
Check for loose IDE cables and that the memory is in correctly. Infact, have you messed around inside the machine before it stopped working ?
If not, and somthing hasnt come loose, it'll probably be hardware failure of some kind. Memory iscommon one, and check the PSU (Hope its a good make / branded one).
Good Luck

This isn't exactly a "solution" so much as an "end of the road". I have a DV2000t which has a broken lid switch, only powers on after battery and power are unplugged (but new BIOS did not fix), only turns on fan briefly during boot then never again (but new BIOS did not fix), has gone through a couple inverters, no longer powers on from power button (due to poor soldering), has non-functional wireless (no network), powers up and down in three seconds if CMOS isn't cleared, and has had the related orange touchpad light. In short, it has had EVERY problem that the recalled DV2000 series laptops have had, and yet the model is not on the recall list. I also called HP and confirmed that, because the warranty period is over, I have no option but to pay a lot for replacement parts from HP.
So the "solution" is to part it out on eBay and happily go without a laptop. Buying a replacement motherboard for this laptop isn't much of a solution, because it's still the same junk hardware, but if anything else goes wrong, there's no coverage.

Follow the below link. HP is fixing the problem for free. They did not ask me when I purchased the computer so warranty is not an issue. HP is sending out a pre-paid box to ship the computer back to be fixed
This will only work if your computer is on the list for recall at:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01087277
If it is on the list call this to contact HP in North America call 1-866-671-7362 from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm MST, 7 days a week.
It worked for me!

I have Dell 1405 Inspiron. About less than 2 yrs old.Got Black screen. You can hear the machine sound like it is working but nothing on the screen.Tried External monitor did not work, tried F8 & Fn. Please help
Try with Recovery Console:
To boot from the Windows XP CD, insert it into the CD-ROMdrive on the problem system and press [Ctrl][Alt][Delete] to reboot thecomputer. Once the system begins booting from the CD, simply follow the promptsthat will allow the loading of the basic files needed to run Setup. When yousee the Welcome To Setup screen, press R to start the Recovery Console.
You'll then see a Recovery Console menu. It displays the foldercontaining the operating system's files and prompts you to choose the operatingsystem you want to log on to. Just press the menu number on the keyboard, andyou'll be prompted to enter the Administrator's password. You'll then findyourself at the main Recovery Console prompt.
After restarting windows use a system utility software like RegInOut.
Lights come on, fan comes on, no monitor, no HD activity, no bios beeps, all hardware removed from the under compartment. Still nothing.

I have no clue wtf is wrong.. was watching movie and suddenly screen went blank... tried to restart by power button solution but no luck at all.. all the blue lights of quick play are on.. touch pad blue light is on but does not turn off to red... wifi/bluetooth red light is off but changing the switch doesnt turn it on.. any solution apart from above ???
Ok the rest of u are fkn morons its a factory problem they missed a solder and it boots in black ...i found a fix what you do is plug in an external monitor power down than hit the quick play button un plug the monitor and plug it back in once u see the hp sign u can unplug the external and u are good until u reboot
I have a dv2418nr with the stated problems above. No video just blue lights. Tryed everything: held down scroll and insert while turning it back on, then turned it back on and it came up. This only worked once. Lost video again. Tried removing the battery and power, and held down the power button for 30 secs. Did not work. Now trying what solution 11 suggested. I did call HP knowing that the laptop was not on their recall list. Heard they might offer to replace or fix for free. Instead they said they would fix it for $300.00. For a hundred or so more I can buy a new, other than HP, laptop.
I hope others have better luck than I.
Using this site and calling about the same issue with no screen output, fan spins for 1 second and blue lights on, they sent me a next day return box and they are replacing my laptop!

It looks that HP is aware of the problem and offers free repair service for the US/Canada customers so If you are lucky enough and live in North America enjoy the free service
Take care and hope its usuful info for some of you guys
I suggest that everyone demand hp to either fix the laptop for free, or send a new one.
Same problem as the rest of you.
I've also had a lot of issues with the wireless on mine.
It also gets hot enough to burn me after just a few minutes of being on.
I'm NEVER going to buy buy an HP product again. I hope they all die for cheating consumers out of so much money.
One time I called Customer Support. Horrible experience. I got directed to a call center in India, where the operator only spoke very broken english. He was more worried about selling me some extended protection than he was about fixing my problem.
Solution number 6 relly worked i was amazed

Hp pavilion dv2000. same problem: blank screen, blue indicator lights on...wtf is up with this. any luck with hp customer service? im also out of warranty!
It could be that there is a static build up and that you need to get rid of this.
Remove the battery and the power cable and hold down the power button for around 30 seconds.
This should fix the problem...if it is the same as mine!
If your computer is running kind of sluggish, you can fix it with an easy clean up of your registry. Here's a link to a free scan that works well:

I've used this one and it sped up my computer by quite a bit. Hopefully this helps.

Usually answered in minutes!
still the operating system didn't load, when the even the computer is on. i'm looking black screen.
my HP dv2116wm had this problem and I sent it in on warranty and they told me it was a faulty motherboard. Then when they didn't want to honor the warranty I was told it was because something had been spilled on it!
my pavillion dv2000 has same problem, just all the LEDs are glowing on power-on, but no display. at times it get automatically on with the battery backup and produces a lot of heat. if someone can suggest me, fine.
Same problem, blue lights on keyboard but system not loading. black display. Laptop is just out of warranty. Sounds like HP is back to their usual non-dependability!!! I have checked all power supply, memory and hard drive connections with no effect.
Hey,
I saw your post about a problem that you faced with your HP
laptop where the machine sits with a blank screen and does not go any
further. My HP Dv 2000t laptop is out of warranty and I have almost the
same exact problem as you did. I would like to know if you managed to
get this fixed and how. Please let me know when you get a chance
wow,
I know now why my computer expert advised me not to buy the HP Pavilion DV2000. As soon as it ran out of warranty mine done the EXACT thing. black screen-won't run-all that lights up is the lights on the quick play dvd player. Everything is dead. Sound like HP truely stands Hell-in-a-Package. No warranty-no help-but I could give them my credit card number for an additional 49.99 they would "talk" to me a little longer. Never again!!!!
i have the same problem lights/leds luminates but no boot or startup hp dv2000 are a junk
Yep, HP is a ****. I have the same problem, actually I have two of 'em and both of them stopped working almost at the same time.(In a 2 weeks a part). I've tried to change the ram it worked for both of them but it started to do it again. I've looked in power settings tried different things but nothing. It is timer chip of some sort or software to self recycle it.(Corporate greed) To buy some more. There is no quality these days it's only quantity. Same is with the anti virus software. Whenever I installed anti virus software it always periodically detected viruses, worms, trojans etc. After you decided not to continue their services your machine becomes dumpster for all kinds of ****. Then I've decided not to install (On the brand new machine) any kind of anti virus software and sure enough never had such a problem in the past 3 years( Now I'am using Mozzila and checking for **** every once a while on housecall. My machine never had any viruses since then) It is same system that they have been using for almoust everything these days.
My HP constantly does this! I have to turn it off by hard booting it....and then keep trying until IT decides FINALLY to come back on! It drives me insane! Especially when it gets turned off every night...UGH!!!
I run a repair shop and I have encountered display problems with the both the DV2000 and Presario V3000. The problem here seems to be the solder attaching the display chipset to the board. When the system gets hot, the solder comes loose the chipset detaches itself from the circuit. When this happens, you face display problems. There seems to be 2 workaround this problem. If your system still has display, use a good cooling pad to keep the temperature down. If your system has no display, then you need to find a notebook repair specialist who can rework the motherboard to reseat the display chip set.
This happened to me last year in March 2008, the laptop (dv2116wm) was purchased in April 2007 so it was still under the limited warranty and this issue was (supposably) not known about. HP sent a box and checked it out. They then tried to play the blame game with me. They said I must've damaged the computer some how, like dropped it (didn't happen) used wrong power cord (where would I even get one) or spilled something on it (didn't happen) and that if I wanted it fixed it would cost me $749.99 (just $150 less than I paid for it). This is the only problem I've ever had with HP but it's still a thorn in my side.
I hear 3 beeps (1 long and 2 short) whenever I try to boot. I tried removing the battery but still it didn't work.
My wireless keeps being red i dot know what to do about it
Same problem as the previous poster. Ive tried to resolve mine but i think at this point i need to get a new mother board
all lights on blank screen.
I have this HP Pavilion dv2415nr bought in US. What a **** ! Black screen, no system boot and all the blue lights on. Brazilian HP support desk is the same ****. They told me to sent the notebook to US with the receipt. Well...I talked to 3 different hardware specialists here and everyone told me the problem is in the video chipset solder.
What can I do? First of all, never buy any other HP product!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dell latitude 650 notebook does not boot, having the screen in black, this is happening to me at twice, and had to reinstall it from scratch the first time, and I supose I have to proceed in the same way this time...is there any known problem that can explain this behaviour? My operating system is Windows 7
