I am having trouble adjusting the picture on my vizio LCD TV. The heads are cut off and any of the words that should appear at the bottom of the screen are cut off. What can I do?

It could be a format issue. Look for a button on your remote labeled format or aspect ratio. Press it until it looks right.

I have sound, but no picture. No previous signs of malfunction. What could be wrong?

Did you check trouble shooting section in manual? Is your TV hooked up to a home theater system? Then check power source to TV. If ok , then I would suspect the lamp blew out.

My Vizio LCD HDTV 32in. doesn't seem to "center" the picture on sports programs so when they have a score box in the upper left corner most of it is cut off and can't be seen. Doesn't matter how I adjust...

This is a common complaint. To be frank I don't have the exact term for your Vizio, but most recent LCD and plasma TVs have the ability to "zoom" or adjust "picture format" (those are two commonly used terms) depending on the signal source and format.

it has to do with the fact that currently there are both classic style format 4:3 signal sources as well as new HD 16:9 signal sources and on top of that it may happen that a 4:3 signal source is distributing adjusted image from a 16:9 or other signal source. Think cinema adjusted to run on classic TV - remember the vertical strip of image with two huge black areas below and above it?

Well the ZOOM or PICTURE FORMAT allows to adjust such an image so that you cut the "void" are by scalling (enlarging) the visible area to fit the whole screen.

A problem then appears when the signal source is normal and showing full screen. Then, because of the enlargement, you start missing some of the picture. Before there was nothing there because it was showing adjusted wide (cinema) format to the TV box format, but when the new TV box format gets enlarged it sure starts missing around the edges.

That's what you're seeing.

More and more TVs do not have the ability to adjust that through the TV itself. Don't ask me why, but they can only do it through the remote.

So if you have an original remote there MUST be a button there that's called ZOOM or FORMAT.

It does the trick.

Hope this helps. If it does do not forget to rate it.

Cheers,

Screen cuts off top of heads

Check the menu settings for the picture. You may be expanding the image to fill the sides, in the process, cutting the top and bottom.

Heads cut off on the screen

Ocean's Eleven. Best remake movie, I think.
I believe your TV is in "ZOOM" mode for the screen. This will make a 4x3 picture come up closer to fill in the 16x9 screen, but this cuts off the top and the bottom.
Keep pressing the WIDE button on your remote until the picture looks best.
If you have HD channels, the screen mode should be on NORMAL. HD channels will have the 16x9 screen format.

The non-HD channels will have 4x3 screen format. When the screen mode is on NORMAL, you will have the cut off picture on the sides because the 4x3 format will not fill in a 16x9 screen.

Cant see full picture w/ Vizio 32in HDTV

You would look for a format button on your remote.
Dish Network: bottom left the asterisk "*" button
DirecTV: top left, second from the top labelled "format"
Cable remote: look for format, zoom, or aspect ratio

Pressing this button should scroll you through the options.
