I have a Range Hood model MK5500 and have had it since 4/1/08. I have had nothing but problems with the bulbs blowing especially the left one. It usually lasts 3 days to 1 week before blowing. The right bulb last long. The problem I have is that the design of the bulb does not allow me to change the bulb. I was able to at first but now I have to call Sears. They have been out and replaced the sockets and are now going to replace the circuit board and the sockets again.
The manual calls for a OR16 bulb. Sears said no such bulb. They send me SATCO S3602 40W R-14 reflector spot 120V bulbs.
I feel the design of these bulbs should be changed so the consumer does not have the problem that I have had. I am very flustrated.

What model range hood do you have? To remove most of the bulbs from a Zephyr hood, wait for the bulb to cool after use. Then rotate the bulb counter-clockwise about 60 degrees (less than a quarter turn) and the bulb should drop down. If you have problems turning the bulb, try the glass suction cup that comes with the hood or a rubber/latex glove grip. Sometimes a rubber jar grip will also work.
The one way to find out your range hood bulb may be to remove one and look at the side/back. The bulbs are labeled. Otherwise, check your manual. Zephyr has the manuals for most of their ranges here: http://zephyronline.com/customer_support . Use the drop-down menu to select your model.
Different hoods use different bulbs. For AK6500, 6536, 6542 Cyclone hoods, purchase type: 4OR 14 mini flood light bulbs. For the AK2500, 2536 hoods, you need to purchase type GU 10 halogen bulbs. For the Anzio models, including the ZAN-E30AS, get a GU-10 50W halogen bulb.
Did you replace the bulb with the correct type? Check your manual -- mine are 12 volt, 20 watt bulbs. If you put one in there that's not rated properly it will probably blow the fuse(s) in your hood.
Try taking out the bulbs and wiping with a clean dry cloth. Sometimes when bulbs get hot the connection loosens, when you screw them back in do not over tighten.
Get two new bulbs and install them. These bulbs are exposed to a lot of heat above the stove and the filaments get brittle. I suspect that the filament on the bulb that still worked broke when you were screwing it out or back in. good luck. please rate my answer. thanks noreen.
If you have 120VAC on the center contact of the light socket, and a working fan, but the bulb won't light...the most likely cause would be a disconnected neutral wire (white) in the light wiring inside the hood....assuming everything else is wired correctly.
If you're comfortable with further electrical testing...let me know, and I can describe a detailed procedure to check the status of the neutral wire. Otherwise, you may need the assistance of someone familiar with electrical troubleshooting or appliance repair.
hood should be connected to a fused spur outlet which you havent found. try removing the chimney and you may find it there. chimney only held by 2 screws at top usually.the fuse in the outlet sometimes goes when bulbs blow
