remove eh hard disk and see if the laptop boots up at least to bios settings ..If it does ..I suggest to reinstall the computer but first go to bios and change the ahci mode for hdd into ide compatible or native ..and save changes..This will eliminate the need for 3rd party drivers and will install proper..
No matter what you have on the disk ..it can not do this right the way ...It need s the operation system in order to work and make damages..and if you wipe it out it will not be there anymore. (in case of a virus) ..
I suggest to use a disk to install and not the old recovery ..

sounds like the OS is corrupted, can you get into bios or hit f8 to get to boot options

Only if that laptop has the option of booting from external drives or media ... some newer computers can do that.

I would just get another CD drive (CD/DVD) for it and replace the hard drive and re-install it.

I don't think I've ever PXE booted either ... besides what's the point of laptop that you have to PXE boot - you can't take your network on the road with you?

I just went through all this myself. First I had the inverter replaced ($200) and it worked great for a week, then the screen went out again. It turned out that the LCD needed replaced ($200 more, labor comped from the first no-fix). There's a problem with the Toshiba LCDs that makes them burn out sooner than other brands. Since the replaced screen, no problems (2 months). Sucks, I know.
