You probably burned the motor up.

Or.. there is still more string in there. Take the fan apart, take the motor out... try to turn it by hand. Does it turn? If not, double check for more string flattened out and stuck btwn the spindle and the machine.

Smell the motor for the distinct smell of hot/melting, etc.

You may have a stuck brake shoe. The smell is more likely a burning carbon smell, which would be the break pad itself. You will need to crawl under and see if any visible burn marks or burned wires are present. Outside that, move to the actual break. 1 possible sign would be large amount of "dust" on the wheel and around the actual break, more than with the other 3 wheels.

The burning smell is your belt(s). Motor is turning but the transmission isn't causing the belt(s) to burn. From the sounds of it, it sounds like your transmission might be locking up. You can try to get the cabinet off of the machine and see if something is stuck in between the inner and outer tub.

Handyman here -
If it sounds like it turns on, but doesn't move then it could be a drive belt or the transmission.
If it doesn't sound like its turning on, then its probably the computer board.

From the 'burning rubber' smell, I would bet on a belt.

The motor is probably stuck and burned. Open the door and turn the drum manually. You should be able to turn it easily by hand if the motor is not stuck.

Remove the back panel and use your sense of smell to verify where the burning smell is coming from. The possible source of the smell is the motor or the motor control board located on the left side of the machine viewed from the rear.

Let us know the source of the smell for the replacement guide and for further troubleshooting if necessary.

there is nothing that can smell like burning such as a slipping belt in dishwashers, but there is a heating element (the metal element loop at the bottom of the machine (inside where the dishes go). Check to see if a plastic item got stuck to this element. If not, then you need a professional to check the underside of machine for bad connections. Good luck, Macgivor.

Remove the water pump and inspect it for a lodged garment blocking the motor from turning.

could be a stuck gear box. burning rubber smell is coming from the belt sliding .

or the belt is just loose and can not turn the drum to spin it.
