My Refrigerator leaks water now and then. It seems to be leaking inside the refrigerator portion below the freezer portion. The whole unit seems to work fine and there is no ice buildup in the freezer portion. It leaks water maybe once a week onto the floor. I dry all the water under the vegetable crisper, and wait again till it begins to leak. Ideas?

JDC2389GES side by side fridge Water is leaking inside the freezer and pooling at the bottom.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Actually the leaking water is from the evaporator coil unit....(it is located at the back wall or underneath the freezer compartment). Under normal conditions,Self-defrost refrigerators usually dispose the water generated during the defrost cycle through a tube or channel that directs the water a pan (Known as Drip pan), commonly below the refrigerator unit....
The channel or tube is clogged and the water is leaking to the refrigerator/freezer unit, so you need to clear that blockage/contamination....Once the blockage is removed, the generated water will move through that channel/tube directly to the drip pan and there will no water on the floor in the refrigerator/freezer compartment. This is all you need to do....

Best of Luck,

Water leaking inside freezer and refrigerator.

you have a clogged drain tube in the freezer compartment. it is frozen with ice and as the unit goes in to a defrost cycle the water has no place to go. you can fix it the easy way, just unplug the unit and let it defrost. this will take care of your issue.

Top freezer leaks water into lower fridge on our sears kenmore #70267990

The answer to finding the cause of the leak is where we need to begin. Most start in the freezer section behind the rear panel where the defrost condensate is drained during defrost. Sometimes the drain hole freezes over and the water drains down into the freezer creating a large area of frozen water. Other times i happens as the water leaves the drain in the freezer and follows its path to the pan below your refrigerator to re evaporate into the air inside your home. If leaking inside the fresh food compartment then the cup behind the control panel may be over flowing and leaking down the back wall of the refrigerator and will need to be taken apart and cleaned to allow the water to continue down to the pan below the refrigerator. Sludge and dust or even ice may be blocking this line. Below is a link to a page that may help you resolve and fix this. If you have more questions feel free to let me know. Whirpool et21pkxgw03 refrigerator leaks water into the crisper bins, underneath the bins, and on the top shelf. What is causing this?

This is a common problem when the defrost condensate drain becomes blocked. Depending on the location of the blockage is the clue to how to prevent the blockage. Most times the blockage begins inside the freezer and overflows into the freezer creating a huge area of ice while at other times the blockage is just as it leaves the freezer and makes its turns going down to the pan below your refrigerator to reevaporate into the air inside your home. On the link below the whole page shows way of this happening and ways to stop it and resolve the problem. Read the entire page and use the part that most refers to you leaking problem. Water is getting into my freezer and leaking

Since it worked OK before you moved it, I might suggest that it may be leveled too low in the front, thusly not allowing the defrost water to drain into the defrost pan.
Ascertain that the unit is leveled a 1/4 bubble high in the front...if you have access to a good level.
Or you can elevate the front with the doors open 90 degress, and with a very slight nudge, the doors should swing closed by themselves.

Installation tip: Proper installation of a refrigerator is both easy and important. The primary concerns are that the unit has sufficient clearance from the walls for proper ventilation, that it is not pinching any electrical cords or water lines, and that it is level. Many refrigerators must be tilted back slightly so that the doors self-close. Consult your owner's manual for further installation instructions

Defroster leaks

you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you acess to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somwhere, pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wirearound the heater( black calrod heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now everythime the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over
