For just the data, get an ide to usb converter and connect it to the new computer, and just drag and drop.
You cant move an entire hard drive to a new computer because of driver issues, but you can use windows built in files and settings transfer utility.

If that old hard drive is on another computer then all you need is a cable and LAN between the computer that has the old hard disk to the new computer. or use any other storage device and transfr it manually.

if the old hard disk is stand alone and is not compatible to the new computer, you will need an adapter that would make the hard disk compatible to the new computer. or, an external hard drive case would do the job just make sure the old hard disk is compatible on it.

If you want to run it as master then you may be able to set the drive in master or CS setting "depending on pc array" Run Windows repair to change the chipset setup because they wont be the same. You can run it as a slave drive which will show as a mass storage device by setting the jumper pin to slave and running it off the primary IDE ribbon

Iintend to change my sata hard drive to a SSD hard drive. How do I format before change

When you install Windows on your new SSD hard drive you can then transfer data from your old hard drive using an USB hard drive adapter or install the old hard drive into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an USB external hard drive after you have transferred your data to your laptop.
When you connect the USB hard drive adapter to the laptop, the laptop will see it as an external storage device, you can then open the various folders anf files and copy them to your new hard disk.

Transfer info from this computer to my new comp. things like Pictures Music.

Copy all your data from the old computer onto a blank CD, blank DVD, or onto a USB flash drive, or external hard drive. Then copy it to the new computer.

When both computers are in the same location, you can use an Ethernet cable to transfer information between machines. If you don’t have a hub, router, or switch, look for a crossover cable to complete the process.

Can I put stuff from a comp. w/ a virus onto a maxtor hard drive

Yes, naturally it depends on the virus, what kind it is and where it is stored. Most of the time you can safely transfer files to another hard drive worry free. I would not use a program such as "Ghost" that copies all your system's drivers over. Only save necessary files, format your old hard drive and re-load everything.

Hope this helps,

Thanks
