I have a hoover modeU6439900 that has a dirt finder green and red light. I am sure that this is controlled by some type of sensor. My question is where is this sensor located? I beleive that it needs to be cleaned off or replaces as the red light stays on all the time now. It was working well up untill a month ago. Can you help me with the location and or replacement?
I had the same problem with a hoover windtunnel 6200 - u5477-900. I removed the flexible hose from top of the plastic tube running vertically along the right side of the back of the vacuum. When I used a flashlight to look into the plastic tube, I could see a clog at the bottom, where the flexible hose curved frontwards towards the brushes. I then removed the 2 screws holding the vertical plastic tube to the vacuum. When I disconnected the plastic tube from the flexible hose at the bottom, I found a clog of dirt and dog hair. After removing the clog and reassembling, the clean / dirty light now moves back and forth from red to green.
The sensor is located inside where the hose hooks on the back of the vacuum. Unhook the hose, looking down the duct, the will see a disk near where it curves to go into the vac. Clean that out, if it still stays on, It is called the EDF duct/mic asm. part # 47823004. The cable for it routes thru to the circ. board that is by the light. The circ. board number is 46851031. Also make sure that you don't have a clog in the hose or the inlet by the brush motor.
I just had the same problem today with my Windtunnel. Remove the canister that holds the filter and dirt. There's a rectangle plastic spout that goes into the canister when it's installed. Spray some Windex on a paper towel and with your finger, wipe down inside the top of this opening. There appears to be a sensor in there that becomes "caked" with dirt and won't let the embedded dirt light work properly. Gook luck.
I took mine apart, and no clog. I GENTLELY ran a bottle brush trough to make sure. Red light still on. Didn't want to take it apart again sprayed windex on a paper towel, shoved it in there sand turned it. Then I clean the filters,changed the bag switched the switch on the dirt finder back and forth and it worked! Dirt finder is now working.

I have a U6485900 and followed all three advices in the posting. First, I don't see the disk near where it curves into the vacuum. I cleaned it out as best as I could in different ways. After different cleaning attempts, the green light finally came on for 5 seconds and went back to red again. I think the sensor might have been blocked again. Mine is a bagged version. Any advice?
the dirt senson on my hoover U6439-900 stays on red. I tried taking off the back and cleaning out the hose, but that didn't do a thing. I didn't see a disc.
so I don't really know where the sensor is. I loooked up a schmetic, but that didn't list a dirt sensor. so what do I do now?
What I found is when mine apparently stays red, it's because there is still dirt there. Bought last house, vacuumed bedroom forever. Said this thing must be wrong and I'll prove it! Put in clean bag, vacuumed forever again, and ended up with a bag filled up with nasties.
