Celestron Nexstar 114gt telescope, hand controller lights up, but no text at all on display. Only the up and down button will move scope. No side to side and no other buttons do anything. It is the controller or likely more severe?
Do you have a fresh set of batteries in the scope? Better to use an outside 12 volt power pack with the Celestron 12 volt "cigarette" lighter cable.
This can be three things:
Low power
Bad cable from hand controller to scope.
Or a broken hand controller
Try fresh batteries first.

Do everything Joe says first...
I found out that i may have dropped the hand controller, there is a VERY flimsy ribbon cable that connects the I/O board to the LCD and it was pinched on the side of it.... I just massaged the cable back into place and plugged it in and it worked!..
In the future so the remote will not fall again, I tied up the coiled cable with a rubber band!
