I am based in the UK, and am trying to set up a variety of TV stuff which my elderly parents have acquired. It comprises:
Panasonic TX-28DTM1 CRT Digital TV with internal Freeview receiver (2 Scart sockets) Panasonic NV-HV61EB/EBL VCR (2 Scart sockets) Panasonic DMR-ES10EB/EBL DVD Recorder (2 Scart sockets) Sony Freeview box (2 Scart sockets) 4-part Scart splitter 4 way aerial splitter
The basic set-up I have done is:
1) aerial in to DVDR, then out to VCR, then out to TV; 2) Scart TV AV1 to DVDR AV1; 3) Scart TV AV2 to VCR AV1.
4) not using the Scart splitter or the aerial splitter.
I have not fully tested this yet, but it appears that the DVDR will only record from analogue channels, not the Freeview digital channels, as it should do, so obviously I have not set this up correctly.
It does occur to me that it should be possible to modify this set-up to also:
a) use the spare Freeview box to allow digital Freeview channels to be watched, while recording on VCR or DVDR other digital Freeview channels; b) record from the VCR to the DVDR.
How do I correct my existing set-up to record from the Freeview digital channels, and how can I amend it to do the other tasks at (a) and (b)?

However, from your cable input from your provider, use a 3-way splitter. Connect the 3 outputs to the individual ANT INput of each of the 3 units (assuming all 3 have Cable/ANT INputs).

Hi, I think the better task is (A) You can try switch scart's!! Then try to record on DVDR or leave as it is and look out for picture on your VCR!!! If you do (B) you will lose a picture quality! good luck

Connect as following
1. Set top box - RF cable from STB to antenna socket on TV.
2. DVD player output to Video1 on TV
3. VCR output to Video2 on TV.
May be you can route VCR through the DVD player or viceversa. That you can see and try on ground.

Make sure your VCR is on channel 3 or try channel 4. Also, make sure your VCR is set to VIDEO or VCR and not TV.
A better way to do this is to connect the cable box to the VCR using the composite cable (yellow/red/white) cable. Then, connecting the cable box to your TV with component cable (red/greenblue) cables. This will only work if your TV has component in. If not, then connect the VCR out composite (yellow/red/white) to the TV. Or use the coax cable from the cable box labeled TV/VCR right to your TV. Make sure your VCR is set on LINE1 or LINE.
You must have a converter box for the tv and for the vcr. Set the vcr to receive chanel 3 and set the converter box to the digital chanel you want to record. Put a splitter on the antenae out and route one to the tv converter box and one to the vcr converter box. GOOD TO GO.
OK, I think I see the problem there.
The aerial lead from the DVDR to TV should be removed.
You should have it setup the same as the other Freeview - VCR - TV
Nutshell time:
Main aerial to Freeview input.
Loop aerial from freeview output to DVDR areial input (all this does is allow you to watch freeview, or standard both out of the DVDR)
So..
Scart from Freeview to DVDR input
Scart from DVDR output to TV
Set DVDR to AV input mode.
Set TV to AV (whatever number you need for that..you now won't get anything on screen unless you have the right input selected)
If you can now see the Freeview picture on the TV and change the channels with the Freeview remote then you should be set for recording.
Having the aerial and a scart lead both going to the TV is not needed.
You trying to put the DVD/VCR combo between the cable box and the TV? OK, cable out goes to vcr in, vcr out goes to tv, I think you got that. Now there should be a tv/vcr button on the vcr/dvd, you need to press that when the unit is on. Also, make sure you are on the correct input on both the vcr and the tv, usually video 1 or AUX and choose line in or L1 on the vcr/dvd. If the tv/vcr button is toggled, itll completely bypass the vcr/dvd player.
i cant see any problem with the connections. have you tried to connect the dvdr along with sky to another tv set? and did the same problem occured? if not, try connecting it the same way with another tv. and see if thesame problem would occur. if the same problem appears check if the connections from sky to dvdr scart if it is loose or not. try to clean the solid wire of the cable. if proble still persists dvdr is faulty. if not, defenitely there is a problem with the tv. and i suggest for you to have it checked.
