Picture turned dark for several months and now is totally black.

make sure the 'VGA' lead is plugged in properly. if still dark turn up the brightness on the monitor. if still dark after that, go onto the computer settings and turn up the brightness on the display settings.

I can turn power on and i will get sound but no picture. I can get different channels up & down with sound only ,but no picture. It seems that the picture has totally failed as there is no on screen...

This can be caused by a main board failure or a t-con board failure. There is a fuse on the t-con that fails but it is not the standard looking fuse. It is an extremely small, surface mounted component fuse. You have to know what you're looking for to find it. It can be bypassed momentarily and if the picture comes back then the t-con is the problem for sure. You really ought to take it to a shop as this is not something that is easily diagnosed at home.

Hello, if the model number is correct it's not a projection tv, but an LCD tv. If that's correct, it sounds like a bad main board issue part # is AGF31218501...thanks

There are two capacitors on the inverter board that will appear slightly puffy on top. Replace both of them. You might also have to replace a surface mount fuse on the other side of the same board. This should fix any backlight or pending problems.

Magnavox 15MF605T/17 15 in. LCD TV Is this inverter board that small board next to the main PCB? and are the two cap purple? Any advice as to what the fuse looks like and where it is located on the back of the board?

I have the same problem as cspassik, and have changed out both "puffy" caps and the fuse, but still have a dark screen. Any suggestions? Thanks for your consideration.

This was totally the solution to no picture but normal sound- I purchased the two caps 150uF, 25V. from Digi-key and the tiny 2.5 Amp(or so i think) fuse and voila! Perfect picture is restored for a few bucks. Don't even bother with Radio shack- they don't have the 150. Outstanding solution and web-site. Thanks!!!!
