I have a Powermate model 544000 generator that only outputs 95 volts on the two 120 volt plugs and 190 volts at the 240 volt plugs. The Briggs motors seems to be running normally and adjusting the throttle does very little to change the voltage. I was able to get the voltage to about 100-105 volts. While the generator is running, I plugged in a drill which will run, but I can stop the drill by holding thechuck with my hand...no power. The motor does not seem to change when the drill is plugged in. I have not idea how to fix this undervoltage problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
There are basically 2 possibilities that can cause this.
1) Enigne RPMs are too low. but, since you already played with the throttle, this probably isn't the case. RPMs should be about 3600 though.
2) The voltage regulator / capacitor has high ESR (resistance) or is bad altogether. Replace.
