Model ED2VHEXT00. side-by-side regrig freezer. Water dispenser does not work. I have not changed the filter in a year - but the green light is still on. Ice tastes nasty. How do I change the filter? is there a manual that describes how the water/ice system works? there was none with the unit when I bought it.

The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.
Page 20 shows how to unlock the dispenser and reset the filter light and I have pasted them here.
There are products at Lowes or Home Depot near the appliance for odor removal, I like to put a bowl of cotton balls on a couple of shelves, soak the cotton in vanilla once a day. The odors will be gone in a couple of days.
DISPENSER LOCK (SELECT MODELS) This feature prevents ice or water from being dispensed. To lock dispenser: ➢ Press and hold DISPENSER LOCK button for 3 seconds. A green indicator light above button confirms dispenser is locked. To unlock dispenser: ➢ Hold DISPENSER LOCK button for 3 seconds. Green indicator light above button will go out.
Filter reset
The filter status indicator light serves as a reminder to replace the water filter. A green light indicates that the filter is in good condition. A red light indicates the filter should be changed. Once light turns red, it will remain red until function is reset. To reset indicator: ➢ Press and hold both DISPENSER LOCK and WATER buttons simultaneously for 4 seconds. The green filter status indicator light will flash 3 times when the function has successfully reset.
I believe your new Jen-Air has an old model number placed above your post. If you had a newer model nuber I could see if changes were made to the solution. The ods are no changes. I it possible you may have missed removal of te flilter plug? It also is your first time and to press the 2 buttons at same time for 8 to 10 seconds may be a little confusing. I bet after this time you will have this down to an art! here is what I could find without the vorrect model number if that is what happened or not.Jenn-Air Press and hold the light and lock buttons until the change filter light flashes. It is very easy to reset your filter indicator light on your Maytag refrigerator. Simply press and hold the light and lock buttons, on the dispenser, for about three (3) seconds, until the change filter light blinks. Jenn-Air Refrigerators - Press and Hold The Light and Lock Buttons until the filter light flashes (usually 5-10 seconds).
Remove the bottom kick plate . Follow the plastic line about 6" and you'll find a connector . Push in on one end of the connector and at the same time , pull the line out . Close the door and press for water . If no water comes out of the disconnented line , the water valve is probably bad . If water does come out , the line inside the freezer door is frozen . If this turns out to be so , you can lower the freezer temp for maybe days , or , put the food on the door, inside the freezer , tape the light switch down ( to keep the lite off and fan running ) and tape plastic over the freezer door opening so the freezer will continue to work . Reinstall the line back into the connector by pushing the hose firmly into place . Leave the freezer door open for maybe 1 or 2 days for thawing out , going by ocassionally and pressing the water dispensor . Important : lower the freezer temperature slightly to keep line from freezing again . ONLY CHANGE THE FILTER WHEN WATER FLOW SLOWS OR ICE CUBES GET SMALL . The change filter lite comes on by the amount of times water dispensor is used and to make money for the vendor .
I solved my own problem. Just realized the red & green dots are not lights
The only LIGHT is the top signal light marked " water filter." which is green
when filter is ok & turns red when filter needs changing. The red & green
dots are not lights but are indicators for the water filter light. Red dot meaning
"change filter" and the Green dot means "filter ok"
try using a hair dryer to thaw out the trough and remove the ice. please note the ice will run all the way up into the tube where it comes thru the cabinet.
this may have occured from your recent filter change as a new filter introdues alot of air into the water system and will cause these tubes to freeze up. in the future right after you replace your filter be sure to run aout 1/2 to 1 gallon of water thru water dispenser to clear air out of system. thx peyton
Check the electrical connector at the bottom of the freezer door for corrosion and if it is not that then the main PCB is failing , when it fails the appliance will stop working altogether although the lights will still work inside.
