I got this info from the online User Manual:

  1. go to web address http://192.168.10.1/
  2. Enter the User ID. The default factory setting is "admin"
  3. Enter the Password. The default factory setting is "motorola"
  4. Click Control Panel > Device Security
  5. In the Login User ID field, enter your User ID. Create an ID that contains multiple casesensitive characters as well as numbers. It cannot be longer than 64 bytes.
  6. In the Login Password field, enter your Login Password. Create a password that contains multiple case-sensitive characters as well as numbers and symbols like “_ + )”.
It cannot be longer than 64 bytes.
  7. Re-enter your Password.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. Once the settings have been accepted, click Restart and log back into the Configuration Utility using your new User ID and Password.
  10. Select Wireless > Basic.
  11. Change the SSID to a user-friendly name and click Apply.
  12. Navigate to Wireless > Security.
  13. Select WPA-PSK from the ESS Authentication options.
  14. Select TKIP from Encryption Status options.
  15. Click Apply and then click Restart. Your wireless security configuration is now complete.

WEP is easily hacked by hackers. WPA-PSK with TKIP encryption is the newest, most secure wireless security measures and you can follow these directions to set it up this way.

Hope this helps you out! If so please give me positive rating (4 thumbs up)

Connect to the router using an Ethernet cable and configure your PC to get an IP address automatically via DHCP. Connect to http://192.168.10.1 via any browser and enter username and password (defaults are admin/motorola). Click Wireless configuration, then "Basic". You can choose WEP there (but I'd strongly suggest going for WPA/PSK which is significantly more secure) as well as setting key and SSID.

Reset password

The Motorola WR850G is a wireless router that attaches to a cable or DSL modem. The WR850G has two reset options.
Users can reset the router and retain the settings or reset it back to factory specifications to clear all settings.
Resetting the router can help with network issues such as dropped connections.
It can also resolve situations where the user has made changes to the router's settings and can no longer connect to the router.

Look at the back of the Motorola WR850G router and locate the reset button. It is a red button located to the left of the Ethernet ports.
Press the reset button on the Motorola WR850G router, and release it immediately to reset the router without changing the settings.
Press the button on the Motorola WR850G router and hold it for longer than five seconds to reset the router to factory specifications.
This setting resets the router's IP address and subnet mask along with the user ID and password you use to log in to the router.

Forgot password to network. Trying to reset password. Tried pressing reset button on wireless router but after going to http://192.168.1.254 still asks for a password. Nothing is working.

To reset the router to the factory defaults, press and hold the Reset button for more than five seconds. This clears the router's user settings, including User ID, Password, IP Address, and Subnet mask. To re-configure the router, see Section 3: Configuration.

I can't figure out my security settings. I currently have it set to: Authentication: Open Encryption: WEP-128 and Key input to phass phrase: for which I selected a common password that I use My...

WEP usually gives you a passkey, you do not choose this.
If you choose WPA2, then you can choose a password.
WPA2 is far more secure, and if you have the option to choose it, then do so.
Log on to your router and check if it is available

How do i find my security key for motorola wireless

The wireless security key is the encryption key that is set in the wireless router's configuration.
You need to connect a LAN cable from your computer to the wireless router, then open the Internet browser and enter the wireless router's configuration URL, then the default login and the password, provided the login and password has not been changed. The configuration URL, the login and password is in the Motorola router's documentation.
If you have lost the documentation then go to the Motorola's WEB site to download the WR850g wireless router documentation.

I have a Motorola Router WR850G. I am now connected with my PC using this router. A relative set this up and I don't know what they did. I need to set up my new Toshiba laptop using the router and I don't...

Hello,
The defaults for this router are:
Username: admin
Password: motorola
If these don't work for you, you can reset the router and passwords back to factory defaults.
To do this, find the reset 'button' on the back of the router. This is a tiny pinhole, next to the power port. Unravel a paperclip or use a pen/pencil tip to press and hold the 'button' for more than 5 seconds: when your red power LED flashes, the router is reset.
You can then enter the default username/password as shown above, and configure the router as you choose - including the password.

Please come back to Fixya if this does not help, or if you need further help.
