Two models of the 46 inch Sony Bravia have a screen flicker problem. On my 2008 model, starting from cold, it lasts for 5-10 min, on LHS of screen. The Telefix tech who visited said this is common with these models (46in only), a new panel is needed. Sony provides warranty on this fault for 3 yrs, so you do not need extended warranty to claim. Discuss your case with Sony or Telefix.
i am having the same isssue with my kdl-46v100. the LHS of screen has horizontal lines and image duplication/flickering for a 5 minutes or so before correcting itself. i called sony and they said its only a 1yr warranty on this model. how does one inquire about this 3yr warrante dj4116 has mentioned?
My model is KDL-46X3100. I do not know what the other affected 46 in model is. The Telefix tech tested the problem this way: Hold the plastic border around the screen with your hands along the top. Press in at the front with your thumbs while the problem is displaying. The problem goes away while you are pressing in.
I'd contact Sony service and say you know they are giving 3 yr warranty on the KDL-46X3100 for this problem. Get them to admit that, and then ask whether the same applies to your model. Otherwise I'd talk to your local Telefix or other TV repairer and see if they know about the problem and Sony 3yr warranty. Good luck.
Thanks for the tip!!! I have a 46" Sony Bravia, KDL-46WL135 purchased from Costco that was experiencing the same flickering, fluttering and sometimes ghosting of images randomly. At times it would or wouldn't appear but over time seems to be getting worse. I called Sony this afternoon and they confirmed there is warranty service repair for this problem at no charge until October 2012. My appointment has been set for the new panel fix. Hat's off to Sony for doing the right thing........
My 85 year-old mother is having the same problem with her KDL46V4100. Is Sony also providing the warranty on this model?
Update: My Bravia had the ghost problem again - well out of warranty. I sold it on ebay as faulty and bought a Panasonic. There is a sort of fix for the Bravia using bezel packing to push the LCD tabs into better contact with the LCD panel. Google "Bravia ghost screen fix" or similar. There are also utubes for this well known problem.
