The unit is self aligned when all the load springs connecting from the tube to the bottom chassis are intact. When one of them some how gets out of its position or broken, it causes the tube imbalance so it knocks during the spinning. There are about 8 springs distributed evenly from front, sides, and the rear. Need to check these out.

Drum knock when spin cycle

Hello.
Noises are common when using a two-in-one washer and dryer, as clicking or whirring is part of the cleaning process during the transition to the next cleaning process. The GE Spacesaver washer and dryer combo uses a top-loading washer stacked beneath the front-loading dryer, and uses an agitator that makes noises throughout the spin cycle. Although whirring or clicking is normal, other noises or malfunction indicates a problem with the washer that requires minor troubleshooting. Professional repair is necessary if the washer continues to experience problems during the spin cycle, as there may be a problem with the washer's agitator.
1 Open the washer's door and check the balance of the load's clothes. Clothes that are unevenly distributed around the agitator cause excessive shaking and result in an imbalance during the spin cycle. Reduce the load's size by removing clothing if the washer's drum is overloaded.
2 Push "Start/Pause" to pause the spin cycle and turn the washer's cycle knob to the "Off" position. Turn the knob to "Spin Only" and press "Start/Pause" to reset the cycle.
3 Turn the wrench counterclockwise or clockwise around the unit's legs to adjust the appliance's balance. The legs are adjustable with the help of a wrench to ensure the unit does not shake while in use. An unleveled unit shakes as it spins, and causes excessive squealing or rattling as it attempts to dry the clothes.
4 Touch "Start/Pause" on the front of the washer's control panel and unplug the washer/dryer unit's power cord from the electric oultlet. Wait two minutes and plug the power cord back into the electric outlet. Push "Start/Pause" to resume the spin cycle.
Thanks.

Frigidaire stacking washer will not spin in rinse or spin cycle

If the unit works when it is on the floor I would suspect three problems.
First make sure the unit is level using a bubble level checking left to right and front to back.
Second make sure the unit is securely on the dryer so when it spins it will not become unbalanced. You should see the washer spin slowly increase in speed and starting to violently shake then slow down again never achieving top speed if this is a problem.
The last possibility is to move the drain hose so it has a loop in it. Use a string, rope or hook it over something to hold the hose up so it will be at the height of the middle of the drum or higher and goes back down into the drain. Washers use a combination of a pump and capillary action to drain. This will also stop water seeping out of the hose when the drum is full allowing it to fill to full capacity.

Spin cycle will get louder and out of control/hits front frame

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

It's possible that when replacing the coupling, the prongs weren't aligned with the rubber piece. I'd pull the cabinet, pump, motor and motor mounting plate to check the coupler again.

It's also possible that when replacing the coupler, one or more of the vibration springs or pads were knocked loose. I'd check the diagram for the base and tub and verify that they are in place.

Beyond that, if you removed the agitators and tub, including the drive block, the block may not have been placed correctly on the spin tube.

See the following for the Whirlpool Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers.

Front Loading Washer LOUD NOISE

IF IT ROARS LIKE A JET PLANE TAKING OFF, THE SPIN BEARING IS FAILING. PROBABLY, THE REAR SEAL HAS FAILED ALLOWING WATER TO GET INTO THE BEARING.
THE BEARING HAS LOST ITS LUBRICATION SO IT IS GETTING DRY. IT WILL CONTINUE TO GET LOUDER AND LOUDER THE LONGER REPAIRS ARE PUT OFF.
THE ENTIRE BACK HALF OF THE OUTER TUB WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE BEARING IS PART OF THAT ASSEMBLY. CAN BE A COSTLY REPAIR.
