Question about Maytag Neptune MAH6500A Front Load Washer

1 Answer

I have a 20 year old washing machine, Model: LA712, Series 88. It still washes fine, but recently it has started to leave strong white streaks on all clothes, totally messing up colored clothes. It happens with any temperature, any detergent, and any load sizes. Does it have a filter that can be replaced? What could be causing this? Thanks. AA

    Jack,

Thanks for your response. I did what you suggested. I did not see any oil films on the standing water (I did let it sit for more than hour after the wash cycle ended).

I thought I would clarify my earlier description. The strong white streaks they look very much like lint - what a dryer would do, except wetter and so it ends up reallly sticking to clothes and it shows very clearly on black/blue clothing, especially those that are very static-y.

Any further thoughts on what is causing and how I can fix it?

    Thanks again,

    AA

No, there is no filter.
As to discoloring clothes it is usually a dark stain.
My thoughts are there is an outside possibility that transmission oil might be in play.

Oil when mixed with water(especially emalsified with soap) will produce a somewhat whiteish creamy solution.

Try this, run a complete full warm water wash with the machine empty on normal speed.

When complete, start over again, but do not allow it to go beyond the wash cycle. Shut the machine off and allow the water to set in the washer for 1/2 to 1 hour. Then check the surface of the water for signs of any type of oily substance.

    Good day,

If your sure the problem initiates in the washer, You could try a fairly strong bleach hot wash to see if it helps.

If not, the next step would be to remove the agitator, then the inner tube and make an inspection of the outside of the inner tube, and the inside of the outer tube. The other area is the pump itself, leaving parts of itself to be deposited in the outer tub, as well as all hoses.

The inner tube is held on with a large nut, that requires the use of a special spanner wrench, to remove. It is a left handed thread.

I don't know if you want to buy these tools or have a service tech do it for you.

Well if you use dry detergent than dry using a lighter duty liquid detergent, and be sure to buy the right kind. If your machine is high efficiency the get the h.e. approved detergent.

I have an old maytag model #LA712 top loader. Recently it has started overflowing not stopping when it's filling. This does not happen everytime and it does not leak any other times but when it does what a...

Usually this is caused by the water inlet valve sticking in the open position. If you can catch the washer while it's overflowing, unplug the washer. If the water stops, then the problem is most likely a pressure switch or pressure hose. If the water does not stop, it is most likely the water inlet valve.

Model LA712 washing machine has a small leak how

These washers are notorious for getting an injection bladder leak. The baldder is located atop the washer in the imlet hose assembly; here is the part:

Located here on top left hand rear corner:

Remove the injector(white pointed plastic looking thingy) from inside the old bladder and shove it up into the new bladder ; reinstall it back where it came from.

My front load kenmore leaves faint dark streaks in

look carefully inside the tub, gasket, lid. There may be some debris of some sort stuck somewhere causing this problem.

Then run the machine adding only two cups of vinegar. this will clean it.

White streaks on dark clothes after washing.

Reduce the load !!

You are getting white streaks because the clothes are so compressed the machine is not agitating them correctly.

My daughter gets the same problem and she still insists on packing the clothes in.

My wife washes the same clothes for her with the right load and they come out fine

Leaves white marks on coloured clothes

I'd try putting the machine on a hot fill wash, max water level put in half a cup of baking soda when the machine starts to washer turn it off and leave it to soak overnight, then let it finish the cycle the next day. Also make sure you tip some of the hot water down the beach dispenser and clean all around the top of the machine

Cheers

Old washing machine is starting to leave grey streaks on clothing

hmmm..let's see..sounds like you have some residue accumulating from something possibly seeping into the tub. That can be old rubber, a metal sheath, or even an leak of lubricant. Like an old car, there are parts of every mechanical device that need to be attended to.

I'd recommend you find the most seasoned person that works on older machines, to come by and assess what is 'leaking' on your clothing. Grey comes from something metallic or rubber/plastic.

Hope you can solve this one, and keep that old machine happy.

Front loader washing machine = black streaks on clothing

I am a recently retired engineer of 20 years once you have ruled out anything getting inside the machine by accident etc, like something in pockets or greasy overalls, then its likely to be the drum bearings, has the machine started to get noisy on the spin the drum bearings are covered by a rubber seal, this seal gets damaged or worn and water leaks into the bearings themselves washing out the grease back into the drum where the washing is, you could also notice slight water marks on the floor underneath the machine on the floor, take the back off and look for water marks coming from the drum outer casing behind the pulley, these marks will be brown and will originate from a small drain hole, if any of the above change the bearings before any real damage is done, either to the clothes or the machine, as repair can be expensive? sorry, hope i have helped you as to where to look at least,
