Samsung SGH-a516 'insufficient memory' for mp3 transfer

My new Samsung won't transfer mp3 files. It keeps saying there's insufficient memory - nothing on it yet, though. What's wrong??

Everytime i try and put a song on my samsung it says 'insufficient memory'???

  • Anonymous Feb 11, 2008

I also have the same problem with "insufficient memory" coming up when trying to transfer mp3's on my Samsung SGH-a516. I do have a 2GB micro memory card installed in it. It shows up as installed on my phone desktop and also shows that I have more than enough memory for the 650MB of music that I'm trying to download. I have tried just about everything to try to get this damn thing to work and am at my wits end. I would sure appreciate a fix for this problem.

I also have the same problem with the computer not recognizing the 2 Gig card. After 3 tries with Samsung I got a hold a guy that says not all 2 Gig cards work some manufacturers don't like the Sandisk one Rogers my cellphone supplier sent me. Rogers is sending me a new card that they say should work.

According to Samsung all 1 Gig cards work but only some of the 2 Gig do.

I had a the same problem, with my computer not reading the SD card when the phone was connected to the computer. However, after messing with my phone for a while, I believe I've found the solution. On the phone menu, go to;
then, "Set Phone"
then, "Select USB Mode"
and finally, "Mass Storage"

Your computer should now read the data off the SD card, as if it were a drive. I don't think the "PC Studio" program will recognize the phone after this, but you can always manually copy music into the folders on the card now.

Hope this has helped!

Hi, Using Data cable (any) in samsung eternity phone, you have to select either Moss Storage or Media player option under Menu > settings > connectivity > select USB mode.
Moss storage allows to access only memory card from phone and Media player allows to access both Memory card and phone memory.

You won't get asked if you want mass storage or pc studio unless you go to phone settings, set phone, the last one set usb and pick ask on start something like that its the easiest as you don't then have to go to settings each time just pick what you want, but i found that i can't get files to go on the phone with pc studio picked and I couldn't with mass storage. I finally went through windows explorer and dragged the files to the folders but I put five videos and only the first one will play. got a solution to this. boy these people who write this stuff are supposed to be so smart but they didn't get right and easy

Having same issues as you guys, I obtained a 2GB sd card for this phone, first had to load one MP3 at the time using the phone CD software, and it had to be smaller than 5MB or I will overflow the phone's memory.... it took me forever to select and do the songs... in addition, my cell phone was erasing my 2GB card data without warning... it got me really mad... I did call Samsung and no solution it all, just a good "have a nice day".

I Invested in a $16 bucks sd card reader in a local cell phone store,

and all of a suddent I can load my music directly into the already pre-formatted on the samsung cell phone card in 3 minutes.... all at once instead of 50 songs in 4 hours....

I hope this helps you the way it help me friends....

I have this phone too
..and got the same troubles puttings mp3's on it with the PC STUDIO was frustrating
I finally took my microSD card and formated it in the get the image, music, video folders...etc...those folders have to stay on the card...then I took my TransFlash adapter that came with the card and put it in another mp3 player. I plugged it on my pc and filled the ''music'' folder with songs...I put the card back in the phone and everything works.

Do you have a memory card yet? If the phone has expandable memory you may HAVE to get a memory card to put files on it. Alot of phones with expandable memory dont have much built in. You can try a small file to test it out like a few second audio clip or a small photo.

When i transfer my music files to my micro sd there are no problem. but when i put my micro sd in my samsung sgh u600 the files corrupted. what is the problem with my cellphone or my micro sd?

dear sir,

the first solution is to keep some of your phone memory clear, atleast 2 mb.........also keep some 100 mb free space in memory card also...if the card and mobile is fully loaded then the cam is almost dead..........

the next suspect must be your memory card, which has been affected from viruses, while you ve transfered files or received files from untrusted devices, which eventually destroys ur mobile also.......
even ater changing memory card, you still face the same problem with a new or formatted memory card, then the problem is caused by virus and sometimes it might be software failure also, which causes some of the menu not tofunction, the only solution is to flash ur phone software from the nearest samsung sevice centre,it also updates your mobile software which increases the mobile speed....

thank you.....take care

How to send songs in SGH M120 from computer

First, you must have the USB of the phone for connection to your pc, you can buy one at mobile accessories store, buy the one that already includes the software "Samsung PC Studio" and install it. If you already have the USB, you can download a free software program at the net. Search for samsung PC Studio. Once you have this program on your PC, it can now recognize your samsung phone. You can transfer music, sounds and pictures but not the videos. You can also save document files using your phone but try to save it on other folder of your phone once you are connected with the pc.

Second, one of the cons of sgh m120 is the limited memory. You should have a program "music compressor" there's available free download also for that one. Try to search via net and install it. Convert music files you like and save it at your desired location on your pc.

Third, open the program samsung PC Studio. On my case I use PC Studio 3. Try to look for updates of program via net. Once update is done, you can work on at the music transfer.

Fourth, this is an important step, because its the right way to transfer the music file (mp3 format compatible only). On the Main View of samsung PC Studio, click the Multimedia Manager, close the quick guide, Click File, Get Files, By Searching, locate your folder with compressed mp3 (or mp3 files), after the searching, Click the NEXT button then it will search the mp3 files then it will show on your multimedia manager main menu. Select the music, right click on it and choose send to phone.. it will now be transferred if you have the enough memory.

If you have questions regarding my suggestion, you can email me at

I have just bought a new motorola zn200 yesterday and it is not able to receive mp3 files from my hp pavilion dv6000 laptop through bluetooth. it starts receiving and then in the middle it disconnects....

You have amemory space of 10MB in your phone & 20 MB in mass storage device. When you transfers any files through bluetooth, it goes to phone memory. so I think this problem occured due to insufficient memory. free up your phone memory and try again.
