After my 42" JVC Plasma warms up a black vertical line (~2inches wide) appears in the middle of the screen. At times the black line is solid and other times the line seems to faint slightly but distorts the picture image behind the line. Any ideas?
I have a Samsung 42" plasma that is doing the same thing. The vertical line on mine, also about 2 inches wide, is also in the center of the screen and goes from the top of the screen to about half way down the screen and sometimes is totally black, but more often has color.
HI,
First thing to do is the reset and the whacking test. I give this a 50/50 chance of clearing it up.
ONE: Disconnect the power cord for 4 hours. Then when you power it back
up the internal soft codes will automatically reset to factory defaults.
TWO: The whacking test is to just bang or smack the set with your hand
on the back, side, top, etc., to see if there are loose connections or
cold solder joints inside that are acting up. If so, the banging should
knock them back to normal and the set should restore. You might have
to use some creative banging and some have had to put a book or
magazine under one corner to torque the chassis enough to get it to
work reliably.
If these two procedures do nothing then:

Hey there ut-ham, the problem seems to be the result of either a display panel failure, or a defective power supply board. In either case, best solution is to return to dealer. Good Luck!

There are two boards at the bottom of the set connected to the panel. Follow the black line to the boards(it will be inline with one or the other) either that board is bad or the panel itself is bad . The boards do not meet exactly in the middle.
It sounds like an Intergrated Circuit (IC) has fried. Even on a good day, this is not something you can attack at home. As a tech (and as an owner of that model samsung), I'd need a map & tools to know what's going on. Your best bet in this situation is to contact Samsung and let them recommend an authorized service center in your area. Sorry I can't be of more help, but this is a rather serious problem.
