About a month ago, I switched on my Hotpoint WDM73 and the downstairs the ringmain tripped; after resetting via the fuse box and trying again, it blew again, but appears to be ok and works as a washing machine on the third attempt to switch it on.
When using the dryer however, it trips the ringmain as soon as it trys to start working.
I've changed socket that it's connected to, and the same occurs, which makes me thing there maybe something wromg with the power unit or switch within the machine.
Can anyone advise if they've come across this before?
It's coming upto 6 years old and only used once a week for that period.

I suspect that the problem is probably being caused by a fault on the dryer element or thermostat.
Remove the top cover and disconnect the heater, and see what happens..
If it does not trip, then prob is the dryer element or stat.
