We have a 50 inch magnavox plasma screen. We found and used a fix from fixya! It only costs us $34.00 campared to the $300.00+
anyone wanted to look at it. The problem was on the powerboard but was two little capacitators with the model #3300 10v. We carefully took the back off the tv and removed the power board, went to a local electric supply store and bought the 2 parts for $2 each, we then found someone (tv repair shop!) to sauter the new ones on! Got it home put it back together and it stayed on, no depressing shutdown after a few seconds! you can find a picture of a fried capacitator on yahoo images, they are supposed to be flat but if defective will be bubbled at the top or even split! I am calling Magnavox today to complain that they are not recalling this part that should have been a better quality capacitator! Hope this helps some people!!

SOURCE: I have a Philips 50 inch plasma tv. The light is

I have Philips 50 inch plasma TV purchased almost exactly 3 years ago. Completely out of warranty. Paid 1999 bucks for it new. Now Plasma TVs similar to this are 800 bucks. I figured the cost of a repair tech coming to the house would be around 500 bucks.. so I decided I could "do no harm" and look at the power supply. Sure enough, two 3300 uF caps were swollen.. I am far from a true electrical repair person, and if it were not for the caps being swollen, would have no idea that they were bad. I am however a little bit skilled in soldering. So I ordered replacements for about 8 bucks. The caps were actually only 1.50 ea. but the min order fee and shipping brought it to about 8 bucks.. I got them from studiosoundelectronics.com . They came in today and installed them... to my astonishment, my TV works as good as it did when it was new... I must say that I am dissapointed in Philips.. and will never buy another product from them. If it is out of warranty.. they will not even talk to you.. I don't think it is too much to ask when you spend 1999 bucks on a product from them.. I expected my TV to have more than 2.999 years in life in it. Thanks a million to this site for providing soulutions for folks..

If you see bad capicators, just replace the ones that appear to be bad. There are many different types of capicators on the power supply and there are different part number for each one. The good thing about capicators is they almost always list the ratings on the capacitor itself.

Check the Voltage rating (V) and the Farad ratings (F, usually μF), you can replace them with any one that has the same ratings. Make sure BOTH of them match the old ratings, you can purchase at just about any electronics store that carries electrical components such as RadioShack.

SOURCE: My 50 inch Philips ambilight plasma t.v. won't

Most likely the power supply board need to be look at plus the Main X and Y boards. The thing I would look for is bad capacitors on the board. Most times a bad cap would be swollen and deformed. Should stick out like a sore thumb. Radio Shack or an electronic supply store would carry replacement parts.

The best thing that would help you out is a Service Manual. A Service Manual will have the red light error code, schematics, and part lists for the TV. You can normally find it over the internet for less than $15.

More specific, please ! Finally, did you replaced all bad capacitors or only replaced the power supply unit ? Because there are many other capacitors on other places that can be damaged.
Sure, the problem seems to be from one of the capacitors, but you have to know how to find the damaged one (and with the proper instrument will be more easy). Howewer, to buy a good instrument is more expensive than to service your TV set (my opinion). Plus guaranty.

My 50 inch is dead. Will not respond to remote or manual turn on Button. Not a thing no red light nothing.. ..

Philips televisions have been known to do this, this is because of its power source inside the tv, i would recommend replacing the part.

Philips 50 Inch Plasma Model 50PF7320A/37 will not turn on

Commonly it's going to be a power supply related problem. The two boards that need to be looked at is the Main Power Supply Board or the power supply board for the screen. The one that powers the screen, some manufactures call it a Backlight Inverter Board.
If you have some electronic experience, you can sometimes find a Service Manual for the TV over the internet for less than $20. It will have the all resource material for repairing your TV model. It's just the matter of replacing the bad part on the circuit board.

Most Likely the power supply board has a few capacitors blown. You can repair it by removing back cover power supply board will be at the center of tv.Look for caps that have a round top these are the bad ones replace with same value caps. You will have to take power supply board out.Be careful these power supply boards have alot of voltage store in them.

Panasonic 50 inch Plasma

it could have over heated you can try to reset it first unplug it for about five minutes and try to turn it on if that dont work the remote might have a set button try holding that down until the red light flashes twice, then turn it on if not then hold the power button down on the set for a good five seconds to see if that resets it. if none of that works you will have to go to panasonic .com for the reset instructions.with the red light blinking the power supply is most likely good you just need to reset i.
