Toshiba TP50H95 No sound no picture

I have no sound and no picture. It powers on and when I turn it off, the screen flashes. Any help would be appretiated.

I have had my Toshiba Rear Projection about 5 years. The past six months, the picture would shrink and get distorted for several minutes and then go back to normal. One day I went to turn it on and had no picture or sound. I have discovered that I can get sound only from the audio input but still no picture from video input. The power light stays on and does not blink. When the tv is turned off, there is a small flash in the center of the screen before powering off. Could this be the fuses or the tubes?

Sounds like a problem in the deflection circuits either vertical or horizontal. You may also want to check the solder connections in the tuner as they have been known to develop cracks over time. But the prior shrinking tends to say deflection problems. If I can assist you further please let me know.

Picture often flickers and image distorts every few minutes

The trouble is most likely in the Video processor. If the trouble looks like its tearing the video only from side to side it may be the line doubler circuit. Some of these boards are no longer available but a good TV tech may be able to componnent level repair it for you.

Model tp50h95 old toshiba wont turn on

Hi, I am not a repair guy and know very little about tv's but I have the same TV set and experienced the same problems you're having about 2 weeks ago.

I found these articles helpful.

http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7596_102-0.html?forumID=60&messageID=2142274&threadID=199369

I decided I would try to repair it even though I didn't have any soldering experience and literally had to go buy a soldering iron. The parts costs me $26 including shipping and it took me about 4 hours to repair. I was so happy when I pressed the power button and my old friend came back to life. It is really simple to do and if you have experience you could probably finish in less than an hour. I hope this helps!

Toshiba TP50H95 TV Won't turn on - Pete

You will need to trouble shoot the start up and shutdown circuits. Often this is a minor component failing causing the set to not power up or go into protective shutdown. Do you have the service manual for this TV?
