One day we turned on the TV and it didn't show a picture. We checked all our connections with the DVR and DVD player. We unplugged it to try and reboot. When we tried again the next night, it worked! But... after 5 minutes it just suddenly turned off. so... I'm thinking it's not the bulbs or crystal display since it shows a great picture... but it takes like a full day for that to happen again. Plays for 5 minutes and turns off. When I turn the unit on, it takes about 10 seconds to actually turn on - same thing when I turn it off. A delay that wasn't there before. it also has a louder clicking sound when we hit the power button then we ever had before.
Strange.
Tried calling Best Buy where it was purchased but since I don't have their "black tie" protection, they can't even send anyone out to fix it.
The model is 42LB1DR-UA with a manufacturer's date of Oct 2006. We purchased it in Feb 2007.
Any help would be great!!
The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.
Search the site by type in the "brand name" to your device; in the "Search box at the top right of the display window of the Homepage" to get gathered related posts.

Since you have already tried a different source of signal, you can be sure that the TV's at fault.
The type of problem you're having is mostly caused by a failing or failed power supply.
This may well be mounted on a separate board inside the housing.
After removing all the cables attached including the AC cord, remove the rear housing and see if you can identify the power supply; this is not normally too hard, follow the AC input and the supply should be the first board to which it is connected.
If it has an identifiable part number on the board, you can call LG to see if they have an exchange or replacement price that makes sense to you.
Boards will often have multiple part numbers; if you see one that clearly could be on a bare board, that may not be the right one.
Look for one on a sticker or obviously printed but not as a part of the etching process. There is often also 'revision' numbers along with the basic part number.
Both of those should be used to get the correct version for your set.

I would contact the dealer & arrange for a service engineer, this problem can be related to an older version of software in the TV & would need to be upgraded, which can only be done by the repir centre.

If you are using a powerstrip may not be supplying enough power to run the LG HDTV and your HD receiver. If you are using a powerstrip make sure the receiver is plugged directly into the wall. Otherwise this may be a grounding issue please reply if this doesn't work and we can look into some other possibilities.
