Should I be hearing only music and background noise from the surround speakers. I do not hear voices, just music, background noise, applause, etc. thanks,,!

Yes, for most movies the surround speakers are for music and background. Unless the person speaking is supposed to be behind you, the voice will not come from there.

I can hear the music but people speaking sounds like they're faint and echoed

If you can hear the music in your PlayStation 3 (PS3) but people speaking sounds faint and echoed, there are a few things you can try to improve the sound quality:
1. Adjust the audio settings: Go to the PS3 menu and select "Settings" > "Sound Settings" > "Audio Output Settings." Choose the appropriate audio output settings for your system and TV or monitor, and make sure that the correct input channel is selected.
2. Check your connections: Make sure that all of your cables are securely connected to the PS3 and the TV or monitor. If the cables are loose, this can cause poor sound quality.
3. Check the game or movie settings: If you are playing a game or watching a movie, check the audio settings within the game or movie to ensure that the sound is optimized for your TV or monitor.
4. Adjust your TV or monitor settings: If the sound quality is still poor, adjust your TV or monitor settings. You may need to adjust the bass, treble, and other audio settings to improve the sound quality.
5. Use headphones: If none of the above solutions work, consider using headphones to listen to the sound from your PS3. This can provide better sound quality and reduce background noise and echoes.
If you continue to experience problems with the sound quality on your PS3, you may need to contact Sony customer support for further assistance or repair.

Take care and have a great day! -Alex

VSB200 sound bar. When background music comes on, the music overtakes the speaking voices, requiring me to turn the sound down (to lessen the music) so I can hear the speakers. In a movies, with lots of...

It sounds like you left the tv set's internal speakers on after hooking up the sound bar.You should turn off your internal speakers via the Menu on the on screen display and go to audio. There you should find something about the speakers (on/off). Turn off your internal speakers and enjoy the sound bars great sound.

Background sound often is so loud it drowns out conversations. Often occurs w=in a movie when there is some background music and dialog. Cannot hear the dialog. Has occurred when watching live music. ...

Looks like you have inadvertently enabled some sound effect, usually these effects can be enabled/ disabled form sounds menu. They will have names like surround, movie hall, concert etc. Go to the sound settings and disable any activated audio effects.

The background music of the dvd movie is playing but there is no sound of the people in the movie speaking. Is the set up setting wrong?

Hello

Yes, fortunately this is only a minor setting which needs to be set right. Although i have never worked on this unit before, all you need to do is to have a look on the remote itself.

The problem is that the player is set to play through the wrong channels. Hence, you can hear the background music and sound, but not the voices. This is because the voice is sent to a channel which does not exist.

On the remote there is usually a button saying channel or sound channel...Something in this line. This will enable you to cycle through the sound channels(2.0 ; 5.1 ; 7.1 etc)

If you cannot find this button on the remote, you will need to have a look around in the sound setting menu.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

I can't hear people talking when i watch a movie?

I had the same problem and found that there was a connection problem with the center speaker. Do a sound check on all speakers and see if the sound is coming out of the center one. If not then just check you have connected it properly.

Emerson dvd player - background sound lauder than dialogue

Greetings surfjax,

If you will allow me to make an assumption, you do not have a 5.1 surround system connected to your DVD player. This is a common experience with users of a standard TV or stereo receiver if a movie is being presented in 5.1.

In a surround sound system the center channel speaker provides almost all the vocal tracks while the side channels will provide music and some background noises. You'll still be able to hear the voices in your side speakers, but it will be muted and over powered by music or sound effects.

Some DVD players allow you to "Downmix" the surround signal to stereo. You might want to look around your sound setup on the DVD player or check your owners manual.

Hope this helps.

JVC Flat screen TV LT-37E488, Hard to hear narration or dialogue over music

Are the settings on your tv set to mono by any chance? This sounds like the speaker output is not properly configured. Is this issue only persistent while watching cable? Have you had any issues with DVDs, blu-rays or Netflix? If so you can try doing a hard reset, unplug the tv from the socket and leave it unplugged for 15mins.
