HDMI problems are very common. A poor HDMI connection will cause audio not to function, and ontop of that there are loads of devices that do not handshake properly with HDMI. Long story short its a real bugger sometimes.

That being said, unplug and replug cables. If you have a spare try it.

Now go into the setup of DVD, typically on Sony units you have to stop the disc from playing or open the tray. The press the "DISPLAY" or "SETUP" button to get into the menu. If you have the option for CUSTOM SETUP select it. Go to audio and set output to HDMI if its not already on it.

You may be able to change the different audio output styles on the DVD. Also from time to time in the TVs menu there is the option to turn audio on HDMI on and off.

Hope this helps,

Cheers

OH. I have a DVD player/VCR Recorder. I have Cable TV. How do I connect DVD player/VCR recorder to Samsung Smart TV?

Unless your DVD/VCR is Upconverted to use HDMI, then you would use either the RED/GREEN/BLUE + Red /White leads to your TV and then use the TV remote to select whichever your TV names that input. If it is Upconverted, then simply plug the HDMI cable into a spare HDMI input.

How to connect DvD play?

It depends on the type of TV you're connecting it to.Please be more specify the models.Preferably, use Component Cable and left/right audio cable, next use a composite cable that has yellow video, white for left audio and red plug for right audio. The plugs and jacks are colour coded,so just match them and you're all set.

If it's a 1080 upconverting dvd player with hdmi and your tv is an HDTV with HDMI,use that.

Upconversion to 1080i playback

Hey smittybd,

According to information provided by the manufacturer, this specific model DVD player is only able to provide upconverted 1080i images via its HDMI output and a maximum 480p resolution using its component connectors. Please keep in mind that while component cables are able to support 1080i and 1080p resolutions, not all hardware (TV's and DVD players) will support these resolutions through component connections.

If you're having difficulty locating a model that specifically supports 1080i resolution images through its component connections, you may wish to try visiting individual manufacturers' websites for more information. Some companies (such as Sony) will provide detailed information regarding what each type of connection is capable of in their owner's manual documentation.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

DVD Upconverters???

Greetings jhays82,

Some DVD players can upconvert DVD signals to resolutions that match those of HDTVs, and send them to a compatible TV via a digital video connection. HDMI (High-Definition Media Interface) and DVI (Digital Visual Interface) both offer high-quality digital transmission of standard- and high-definition video signals. HDMI can also carry multichannel audio, and is backwards compatible with DVI (video only). So in other words, to receive the full benefit from an upconvert, you would want to hook it up with HDMI or DVI.

Thank You,

Agent Dort,

It'll still be 480i, it'll just work on a 1080i input now. You can't make HD out of a non-HD source.

Hdmi Issue

Most new HDMI DVD players use High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP)on the HDMI output. If you try to play this on an older TV that is not compliant with these new standards it will not work. This standard came out late in 2004 that is why your older player still works. There is also a service bulletin from JVC about upgrading the software on your TV for HDMI compatiblity issues. If you want a pdf file of the bulletin I can send it to you.

HDMI Input Failed

I've been seeing alot of this out in the field. The cable is thick and heavy, after awhile the HDMI connectiion inside the set comes apart and breaks from the main board. In my opinion the only difference between Component jacks and HDMI inputs is the thought of reducing the amount of wire mass in the back of the unit. It's more pleasing to the eye. If it's under any kind of warranty, call a servicer. The main PCB will need to be replaced. If it's not under warranty, use component input cables, you'll get the same performance from your set and save a few bucks.
