I am a tech in the appliance industries. No clean cycle is available for the HE4t. Put the washer in sanatary cycle and drop an Affresh tablet. Keeps the door open and dispenser tray open to minimize the mildew smell. Clean the rubber seal and glass every other day. Total time to do this 5 min.

From the manual that came with my HE4t:
    Select Rinse & Spin button
    Select low spin speed
    Select warm/cold water temperature
    Select 2nd rinse option
Push end of cycle signal 4 times within 5 seconds
The washer will begin the cycle and after about 3 minutes will give 4 short tones
You should add bleach at this time. 1 cup if the first time in a while. 1/3 cup if regularly maintained.

Yes the HE4t does have a clean cycle. Use the direction above to get it to activate. But do not add the bleach till it says to add the bleach. This will read ab on the display.
I am also a appliance technician and own a HE4t washer.

Washer Monthly Maintenance Procedure:
This cycle uses higher water volumes in combination with liquid chlorine bleach to thoroughly clean the inside of your washing machine.

  1. remove any clothing or items from washer
  2. CLOSE door (duh)
  3. open dispenser drawer and remove the detergent compartment and set aside. No laundry products will be added at this time. You will be required to add only liquid chlorine bleach at a later step.
  4. For Kenmore Elite HE products press a specific combo of buttons.
  • Select Rinse/Spin program
  • select low spin speed
  • select warm/cold water temp.
  • select 2nd rinse option
  • push the "end of cycle" signal button 4 times within 5 seconds to start the cycle
The machine will fill and run a short sensing cycle. This will take about 3 minutes.

Step 5
  1. The washer will provide 4 short tones. Check the: ESTIMATED TIME REMAINING display for the codes indicated below:
  • if "Ab" (add bleach) displayed in the estimated time remaining window (you'll hear 4 short tones) proceed to Step 6.
  • if "rL" (remove load) displayed in the Estimated Time Remaining window an error tone will sound. The door will unlock.
-open the door and remove the items from the washer.
-continue the cycle by pressing the START button.

NOTE: The water in the unit will dispense for a moment, then the door will unlock, lock again, and then the cycle will continue with another check for items in the washer.

The machine will fill and run a short cycle to determine whether any items have been left in the washer. This will take approx 3 minutes.

the washer will repeat Step 5 until it can determine that there are NO items n the washer and will display "Ab" (add bleach).
6. Add liquid chlorine bleach.
  • If using the maintenance procedure for the first time, open the dispenser drawer and immediately add 1 cup liquid chlorine bleach to the Main Wash detergent compartment. The liquid bleach should immediately flow out of the dispenser.
  • If doing a monthly maintenance procedure, open the dispenser drawer and immediately add 1/3 cup bleach to the Main Wash detergent compartment. The liquid chlorine bleach should immediately flow out of the dispenser.

    NOTES:
  • Water will be flowing into the dispenser drawer when the bleach is added ... this is normal.
  • Do not add any detergent to this cleaning cycle. Use of more than 1 cup of bleachw ill cause product damage over time.
7. Once the cleaning cycle has begun, allow the cycle to complete. An est cycle time will appear on the display.

8. After the cleaning cycle is complete, leave the door open, clightly to allow for better ventilation and drying of washer interior.

9. Replace the detergent compartment divider.

Need to know buttons to press to self clean.

Taken from the Use and Care guide:

To clean and freshen the washer, perform the System Clean Cycle. For best results use the System Clean Cycle once a month. To begin the cycle, press and hold the Spin Speed and Options buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds until the display changes to "CLn".

IMPORTANT
Items left in washer while performing the System Clean Cycle will cause a severe out-of-balance situation that could damage the washing machine.

REMOVE ALL ITEMS FROM WASH DRUM before filling the detergent chamber with one (1) cup of liquid chlorine bleach OR one (1) pouch of TIDE® WASHING MACHINE CLEANER. DO NOT use both. Press Start/Pause to begin.

If the System Clean Cycle is canceled or paused during the cycle, the washer will go through 2 rinse cycles to clean the drum of any residual bleach before unlocking the door.

Cheers!

How much bleach do you add during cleaning cycle?

If the model number is correct, to run a "Clean" cycle on this model washer you need to follow these steps:

1. Make sure wash tub is empty and close the door.

2. Open the dispenser drawer and remove the plastic divider in the MAIN DETERGENT compartment.

3. Select the following options:

a. Select the POWER button.
b. Select RINSE/SPIN.
c. Select LOW SPEED SPIN.
d. Select WARM/COLD water temperature.
e. Select END OF CYCLE SIGNAL to SOFTER.
f. Press EXTRA RINSE button 4 times within 5 seconds and the
will begin.

4. The washer will run a short sensing cycle for about 3 minutes.

5. The washer will beep 4 times and a code will appear on the front panel display.

a. If "Ab" (Add Bleach) appears - skip to step 6.
b. If "Rl" (Remove Load) appears - the door will unlock and you
need to double check the wash tub for any items. Close the
door when complete and press the START button.

6. Add bleach. If this is the first time running the clean cycle add ONE CUP of bleach to the detergent compartment of the dispenser drawer. If this is a monthly routine, add only 1/3 CUP of bleach.

These instructions are listed on page 18 of your owner's manual. If you no longer have a manual, yo can obtain a FREE copy at managemylife.com. Just type in your model number under their "Manuals" link and you will find it listed in .pdf (Adobe) format that you can download or print for free.

If you have questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

HE4t washer leaves clothes smelling worse than when they went in. They come out smelling like clothes that have been sitting around for months. I suspect the cycle sequence is just draining the soap, but...

I have this problem with my Siemens machine, it is due to mainly running low temp washes and bateria building up in the hoses etc. (more prevalent if the machine is connected directly to the sink and not on a stand pipe). I run a 90 degree cycle every 4 weeks with the machine empty except for two capfuls of baby sterilisng fluid (approx half a mug) I buy stores own as it is cheaper than miltons. The first time I did mine I ran the cycle twice to be sure it was cleared out. My machine is six years old and the first smelly signs were when it was about a year old, I run the maintenance wash religiously ever 4 weeks and run a machine descaler such as oust thru every 4-6 months. Hope this helps. Roni. (ps don't be tempted to use bleach as it foams up and can cause more problems!!)
