Have many zip files, and do not know how to use them.
Bought a hosting site. Have Filezilla for ftp. can't get started. Struggling and searching for answers, since December 21, 2009. Still no site active. Onsite support is confusing. Newbie.
Re: Have many zip files, and do not know how to use them.
In hostname write the domain name that you have bought eg: www.example.com
in username write the user id that you gave whille buying the domain
password write the same password that you have for the above specified username/id

If you do not have an FTP client . Please download https://filezilla-project.org/ . Connect to you ftp account using host , username and password. Find a folder named "public_html". Open the index.html file in any editor (notepad) , remove the private information and save the file
You can use MS products (FTP Service and IIS Management Console) or a third party software (FileZilla.)
To use MS, you have to enable FTP under "Add Features" in Programs and IIS service.
Then you have to configure IIS:
Run Administrative Tools -> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
Expand the local machine
Right-click "Sites" and add "FTP Site"
Call it "Default FTP Site" and create the path like "C:\inetpub\ftproot"
click "Next"
Enable Start FTP site automatically, select Allow SSL
FTP clients are typically HIPPA compliant. HIPPA requires that FTP clients be HIPPA compliant through SSL, TLS or SSH/SFTP with at least a 128-bit secure connection. Filezilla supports FTP over SSL/TLS (FTPS) and SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). In other words you are OK to use Filezilla.
I had the same problem with this software. I ended up having to create a file and place it on my desktop then go back to my website creator software and choose file at the top left and then choose export from the drop down menu, choose the newly created file that you placed on your desktop as the destination to export to. Now you can use an ftp program like filezilla (free to download) to load the folder on your desktop to your hosting account. Give up on the built in ftp send function of this software, nobody seems to be able to get it to work.
May be a file permission problem. Use an ftp client like filezilla and configure it to the host's ftp login account. Then try changing the file permission for that particular file. Go here to find more about file permission.
I would highly recommend using the company "Host Gator" to host your website....one of the most important things is the support from your host and these guys absolutley rock , 24/7 live chat and phone support. The prices are also very cheal , something around $4.95 a month.......
As far as the whole process goes , first you need to sign up for a hosting account, which you can do HERE - Not sure if you already have a domain name , but if you don't you can also do it through there....
After that you will be sent all of the infromation to access your account and its just a matter of loading your website to the server. You can do tha with any FTP software , such as "Filezilla"...like I said all the info you will need regarding uploading the site will be sent to you....
I imagine hostmonster is going to host your web site. If they have an FTP that they made then I would use it. Other wise if you have windows Vista it offers a very simple way to FTP your site from your computer to their host computer. If you need more help with how to FTP let me know because there are several walkthroughs online. (by the way FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol)
If it is not the FTP that you having a problem with then it must be the username/password from the host site (hostmonster) that is bad.
