SQUEAKY DRYER My Maytag Atlantis started making a high pitch squealing noise it does stop briefly but then starts again. What can I do to make it stop?

if it is a squeal it could be your rollers needing to be replaced

The squealing noise is from the belt tensioner. Replace the pulley only on the tensioner along with a new belt. The bearing in the pulley is causing the squeal. Sears will sell this in a kit. The top and the front panel of the dryer will have to be removed to replace these parts

is it a high pitch noise. Like a noise that sounds similar to a old freddy cruger movie when the little girl on the tricycle passing by. If it sounds like that, then maybe you idler pully needs to be oiled..the idler pully is what keeps tension on the belt and lets the belt rotate smoothly. just like a pully. That maybe needs to be oiled..try doing that and see that works.

I would replace the belt that turns the drum. It is probably wearing out and that is causing your noise.

The idler rollera and belt tensioner have got bearings. One of them is failing.

1) Make sure valve is open all the way 2) some machines have a screen inside of the hose hook up which could be clogged. 3) last check to see if it is the hot or cold by switch your selector switch on your machine to hot then cold. If one of these positions eliminate the noise then the valve in the machine is bad.

First, pop up the top of the dryer -- use a large slotted screwdriver under each corner of the top. There will be screws holding the front of the dryer -- take these out and take the front off. The squealing is coming from roller bushings which need lubricating. Apply machine oil to all the axles/bushings -- this most likely will stop the squealing -- and don't forget to unplug it first.

sounds like the carbon brushes need replacing in the motor, they can cause a screeching sound as they wear down.
