I have a Electrolux/Frigidaire model# FRS26R4AW5 refridgerator. The ice dispenser has always worked fine (7 years old), but recently started to only dispense crushed ice, even if it's set to dispense cubes. It has two soft style push buttons on the door that switches it from cube to crushed. What can I do?
I have a few ideas for things to try. On the bottom of the ice cube holder I believe there is a spring loaded metal rod that runs from the front of the freezer to a little indentation in the back of the freezer. Inside this indentation there is a small plastic piece that can move up and down to rotate the metal rod. Make sure this metal rod is free to rotate. Sometimes it gets stuck in one position. The position of the plastic piece inside the indent in the rear of the freezer is controlled by a solenoid which is controlled by the buttons on the front of the door for cube or crushed. Close all the doors and push the cube button. Open the freezer door and remove the entire ice cube tray. Reach to the back of the freezer and make sure the little plastic piece inside the indent will move up and down easily. You want it to be in its down position. Re-insert the ice cube tray. The metal rod should fit easily into the indent in the back of the fridge. Now close the door and see if you can get cubes. If this doesn't work I suspect the solenoid that moves the little plastic piece may need to be replaced. I hope this helps you out.
